Question Tempeh?

Tell me about it.

I've never eaten it and I'm a bit sceptic about it, but I'd really like to try it.
Don't want to ruin it for myself, so which recipe would you recommand as a start? I heard it tastes mushroomish, is that true?

I love tempeh!

check out Tempeh for background. It's really a grain that has lots of protien.

My current favorite: tempeh burgers, made like sloppy joes:

saute one onion in some olive oil
add one chopped green pepper and one clove of garlic
add tempeh and brown

cover with a mixture of: 3/4 cup ketchup, 3 tablespoons of mustard and one tablespoon brown rice vinegar.

Mix well until heated

Serve on hamburger buns, cover with cheese if you wish, and the regular hamburger toppings: mayo; or veganaise, relish, etc.

You can read this recipe in the cookbook: Feeding the whole family.

Yummy!!!

There's a recipe for tempeh sausage crumbles..they don't really taste like the real thing, but are good in a breakfast burrito, or stir fry, or paste sauce...ect.

(this is off the top of my head)

* One Package of Tempeh, cooked in water about 10-15, water drained.
*Add tempeh to sauce pan over medium heat
*1 Tblsp Olive Oil
*1 Tblsp Soy Sauce
*1 tsp dried basil
*1 tsp oregano (I add more)
*1 Tblsp Fennel Seed
*1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
*1/2 tsp dried sage
*2 cloves garlic
*Cook for a few minutes stirring, make sure it doesn't start to burn. Use at once, or store in frig for a few days.

Vegan with a vengeance has a few tempeh recipes. Here's their web page The Post Punk Kitchen: Vegetarian cooking & vegan baking with no attitude
