elliptical machine

When i go to the gym, i see anybody and everybody using these machines like crazy. I tried it today and i could only do it for 2 minutes it was so hard and i was hyperventilating and i could not continue for another second. Is anybody else retarded with this damn machine or am i doing it wrong somehow?

Did you have the incline or resistance set really high?

is it true you burn fewer calories on an elliptical than a treadmill?
but it is better for your knees i'm sure

I'd like to try an elliptical machine.

I don't like treadmills.

i tried it again today and i figured it out. it is hard to figure out but easy to use after you figure it out. I burned 3x as much calories on the elliptical than i burn by staying on the treadmil. gotta have something to read though....

I used to be like that. You've got to crawl before you walk. Try it at small intervals, and before you know it, you'll be able to do at least 30 minutes.

I have trouble on these too, but I'm shit at running, and it's just like running but in a different way isn't it?
I find myself too aware of the timer though, and I think I convince myself I'm too tired to do any more. If I have someone next to me to talk to I go on for longer, but thats just me

That machine kicked my ass the first week of using it. It took me about two weeks to get adjusted to it (and exercise in general) i started out ten minutes a day for seven days, then the next week i was able to do twenty, now i'm up to 30-45 minutes on it.
Having someone to talk to, or an ipod/walkman to listen to helps greatly.

Depends on how fast you're going on a treadmill and how high the incline is.

I love 'em.
Starting out, the easiest setting after 3 minutes kicked my ass and I loved it. It seemed too easy at first but after 3 minutes your heart is going!

I'm currently looking for the smallest (elliptical) machine ever made to put in my house. I had one one, it was a monster. Going to the gym is more logical maybe but I don't see myself doing that. If I'm going to leave the house, I'll take a walk out in the desert.

ellipticals are great. they provide a much more even workout than a tredmill, but i would suggest switching it up liek if you work out 5 times a week (i do, and this is what i do, to get optimal results) like rotate 3 times elliptical and 2 times tredmill.

also the more muscle you have the more fat you will burn, so lifting weights, even small ones, is a good idea to put in your routine as well.

YAY FOR THE ELLIPTICAL.
