Peppers

Do they count as past of your 5 portions of fruit or veg day??Green,Yellow,Red??
I always think of them as flavouring, rather than good for you.

I know green peppers are a good source of calcium.

I can thank my vegan friends for knowledge like that. Unless that girl was dead wrong and lying to me.

isn't it weird when people call them peppers and not capsicum? haha i guess they are a part of the pepper family. i wonder why they have two names though.

anyway, i think they are pretty good for you but red are the least healthy. at least i heard that somewhere ....

yeah a pepper counts as a portion of fruit/veg. red/yellow or orange peppers contain 3 x times more vitamin c than citrus fruit and they contain something like 85% water...............so basically they are really good for you.

Want to color your life healthy? Brightly colored bell peppers, whether green, red, orange or yellow, are rich sources of some of the best nutrients available. To start, peppers are excellent sources of vitamin C and vitamin A (through its concentration of carotenoids such as beta-carotene), two very powerful antioxidants.

Red peppers are also an excellent source of the vitamins K and B6. Green peppers are a very good source of fiber and folate as well as the minerals molybdenum and manganese. In addition to beta-carotene, red peppers contain the beneficial phytonutrients lycopene, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Here is a really good site I got that info from. It gives lots of info on the nutritional aspects and different ways to prepare peppers.
