when people say 'stairstepper' i usually assumed they meant stairmaster. ahh i see, THAT is what a stairstepper is.
i know the gazelle thing isnt a great workout, the mechanics of it just dont allow for that great of a workout unless its possible to crank the resistance way up and go really fast. still SOMETHIng though..
the staristepper in the link though, as much as it's way better than doing nothing...in my honest opinion, doesnt look like the greatest workout either. the range of motion, the distance that your weight has to drop, even on the least resistance (aka highest level), isnt very much at all. the way a stairMASTER works is that it supports your weight to a certain resistance before it starts to give under your weight, before it starts to fall. once it starts to fall, you have to lift your weight up one leg at a time back up to the starting position, and theres your workout. keeping the entire weight of your body at the top of each 'step'. the longer the distance from the top of your step to the bottom where the stair stops, the larger the range of motion and the more time gravity has to make the motion harder for you. also, the less the resistance (the higher the level) the less weight the steps support, meaning they drop at lot faster, AND the more of your actual body weight you have to heave back up again.
the stairstepper has hardly a fraction of that range of motion, i cant imagine how it would be possible to get a really GOOD workout on it. perhaps briskly walking for an hour would be cheaper and a better workout..?
but im babbling, this is horrible, i should be encouraging you.
no matter what though, if you're not doing any exercise at all, this is definitely better than that. whatever is gonna get people to move and be consistent shouldn't be dissed, that's my philosophy.
good luck though, let us know how it works out
