Eating 5 portions of Fruit and Veg a day

Hey, I am trying to be more healthy and eat more fruit and veg because at the moment I don't even get the recommended 5 portions.

I find it pretty to eat alot of fruit but it's the veg that is my problem because it normally tastes so bland...

How do you get your 5 a day? I need help! Does anyone have good ways of 'hiding' vegetables in sauces or what not to make them more appertising?

yeah, the whole 5 a day things very confusing i think, like does one apple count as one of the five? and what exactly is a "portion"? couldnt you have like a subsitute, cause you can get health drinks or something that are the equivalant of the 5 a day. i don't know aha

v8 juice. it's high in sodium, like most things. they have a low sodium v8.
8 ounces is like 2 servings of vegetables a day.

Mmm I love V8 fruit juice. I am way too timid to try the vegetable ones, however.

I don't know how people manage eating five 'portions' a day. I ate like seven strawberries and three grapes today, does that count as a 'portion'?

I have a feeling that one apple=one portion but it's harder to tell with small fruit.

your body size doesn't change the portion, as an adult.
a womans fist size....that's common sense stuff.

i try to eat five portions of fruit and veg a day but always fail. apart from today i have been so healthy grapefruit for breakfast then sandwich with ham, plenty of lettuce and tomatoes and for dinner curry with (lots of) red peppers and mushrooms in. and orange juice all through the day. =5 portions!

I find the easiest way to make it to 5 is to add loads of veg to sauces like pasta sauce, you can always stick half a pepper and/or mushrooms in and make it with tomatoes, there's 3/5 sorted.

Or add things to sandwiches like cheese and pineapple or cheese and apple, pesto and roast veg. Carrots dipped in houmous (sp?) that kind of thing

a portion is pretty much a handful of any fruit or veg.

I try my hardest to eat 5 portions a day, but i find it quite hard as well. I always take 2 or 3 pieces of fruit with me to college everyday to snack on, which makes it a bit easier.

A glass of juice counts as a portion, as long as it's real juice and not fake sugary junk. I don't count portions, because I think that's a waste of time... I just use common sense and try to eat as much fruits and vegetables as possible. I know there's no way I'm gonna reach 5 portions a day.

Don't they have B vitamins? I could be wrong but I think I read that.

Anyways, try sneaking veggies into food you're already eating. Put tomatoes and bell peppers on a sandwich, stir broccoli into macaroni and cheese, etc. But as long as you're not eating too much sugar, you can have mostly fruits and a few veggies. Make sure you're getting a good variety of fruits, and you don't have to include that many vegetables.
