| | | Dealing with food cravings Hi! I don't usually make threads very often but I thought I'd ask some advice. I'm having trouble keeping my food cravings in order. I know it's ok to have 'bad' food every now and again but certainly not everyday. I was wondering how you deal with your food cravings? I'm not overweight at all, in fact I've lost a bit of weight but I just can't get rid of these cravings. I guess it's been made worst because I've recently given up smoking too. Any help? |

| | | force yourself to eat something healthy first and then if you are still hungry for whatever you were craving before it won't be so bad if you give in and have a small amount/one serving size of whatever it is

| | | when I have a naughty craving, I try to drink a large glass of water and go for a walk, after that I reward myself with a tiny bite of whatever it was I was craving and throw the rest of it away
it's not easy and it doesn't always work |

| | | it's ok to snack as long as it's on healthy food like fruit or nuts or seeds. brushing your teeth is a good idea, i hate eating after i've just brushed my teeth! |

| | | I usually give in, but if i make the effort, i realise i actually crave something more substantial so usually make myself something healthy and then let myself have a dessert. By the time you've eaten the healthy thing, you generally can't be bothered with the dessert. |

| | | I've just started forcing myself to eat one tea-spoon of chocolate spread every evening so I don't feel deprived of chocolate and sugary things and then eat biscuits late at night. I know that sounds weird, but it makes sense to me. I'm not sure if this is going to work yet though... |

| | | Try exercising or reading.
I wouldn't suggest watching television because I tend to want to snack while watching tv.
Just try to keep your mind busy and if you -have- to eat, like if you're actually hungry, you aren't just snacking to snack, try something healthy.

| | | I find it impossible to ignore the cravings, they don't go away. So I set aside for myself one day a week when I can eat all the crap I like, that way you feel so bloated and repulsed the day after that you stick to your healthy eating for the rest of the week and don't crave the bad stuff!
This dosen't have to be unhealthy, you don't have to go overboard on your naughty day, just have extra cookies & ice cream or whatever satisfies your cravings.
During the week if I feel like I want to eat at night (when my cravings usually strike) I have a hot drink (like low cal hot choc) or eat some no-sugar jelly/jello which is surprisingly yummy.
Another way to kill cravings is drink loads of water. Apparently what we sometimes mistake for hunger is just lack of water so fill up on it. It's also good to chew gum - can't eat while your chewing!

| | I've been craving chocolate like MAD these past few days and i have tried so hard to ignore the cravings but in the end i give in and have two bars of chocolate. It doesnt matter what i eat or if i'm hungry or starving all i can think of is chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. But to try and stave them off i've been eating more protein rich foods and adding sweet things to my meals. Like, coconut milk to my brown rice to try and satisfy my sweet tooth. I've also started to drink more water in a hope that it'll curb them. |

They'll fill you up nicely.
