| It's an HP Mini. I have the newest Ubuntu, Karmic Koala, netbook remix version installed. Layout differs from the PC/Laptop version, but it's optimized to run on netbooks and I love it. (btw guys, if you're running Ubuntu, wait a bit til things are more worked out before you upgrade, quite a few bugs being reported in the new release.)
I've been adding apps all night. They have some new software center that only seems to do one app at a time instead of just selecting multiple and letting it rip like the synaptic manager of Jaunty and earlier releases; a lot are complaining on this aspect of it, but I think it looks much cleaner. They could probably add multiple functionality back to it without too much trouble.
Anyways, your nabbed dongle, are you running Windows on your laptop? Usually you'll need a software disc that comes with the dongle. The bluetooth app they have on Linux usually finds them without much fuss. Just supply a key of your choosing or have it generate one for you to pair devices.
A card reader will transfer faster than BT will, currently anyways. Might be the best route if you're turning your phone into a quasi-ipod. But if you just want to add/pass to PC an occasional picture/ringtone/song, BT will suffice. With the card you usually have to bother with powering off the phone and then removing the battery to access the mini sd card, a lot of phones have the slot located under the battery.
