Okay, in any case, about this "alternative third party software"... so let me get this straight. If I have something like winamp already (I do), I can somehow use that to put music on my ipod? But I can't buy music from the itunes website? Or can I?
Argh my browser ate my last reply, let's try again.

Firstly, sounds like you're probably in luck with your lab computers.

Secondly, in theory I don't see any reason why you couldn't use winamp to manage your ipod, but I can't say I've ever tried. You're right in saying that you wont be able to buy music from itunes that way, though.

I have Windows ME on my desktop comp back at home and it's shit-blue screen of death all of the time! When I bought my ipod Mini in 2005, it was distressing to learn iTunes didn't work on it...

So, download ephPod. It'll access your ipod just like itunes does. But itunes is a really great program-might as well upgrade to XP! It's prettier and more stable than more ME and Vista combined hah.

Alright, the pod came in the mail. I plugged it into my computer (turns out I had two girl parts all along) and now it says "Do not disconnect" - flashy, flashy - "Do not disconnect" - flashy, flashy. What is it doing? Charging? Installing? Partying? I didn't get any kind of prompting from my computer. Do I just... be patient?

Did You try to Install the CD?

It should Have Itunes on it.
