i want an external hard-drive that makes 2 copies of files in case 1 disk copy fails

Does anyone know what Im talking about?

Those drives where it makes 2 copies of the data, so that if one copy fails you still have the other copy?

i want that. any ideas? external only...

I have the 250gb version of this and it works fine, you just plug into usb and it works straight away if you have XP, other versions of windows may need the drivers installing manually off the web but this will only take a few seconds.

do you mean a RAID (redundant array of independent/inexpensive disks)?

You want a Raid level 1. I've heard its best to set this up via software than hardware.

yeah you need a RAID 1 drive array. You can have a hardware or software RAID controller but i'd prefer to go the hardwired route; less to go wrong.

That means 2 hard drives, and doubles your costs. The cheapest way to do this is to install a new hard drive and sort out a RAID controller for your PC (only needs one new drive). However, if oyu want an off-the-shelf product, i'd recommend one of these:
