whoa, thank you everyone. maybe i should have stressed mental health nursing in the community, or in the voluntary sector? hopefully not in hospitals. although i don't have a jobby phobia. ta!
(and i have been here every so often, reading everyones posts like a creep )
usually you need to have a bit of experience in the hopitals before you can go into community. Unless you are very lucky .

and then there's working on a secure unit, which hasn't been mentioned
and working with little kids and teenagers. less likelihood of crap flinging there, i think.
a_little_devil, what don't you like about yr job?
I went to Broadmoor today. That would be a SCARY place to work. First thing that they said to us was "Was anyone apprehensive about coming here today?" and this guy goes "Yeah I was a bit frightened someone was going to use my pen to stab me in the eye" and the response is "actually that happens quite often, a doctor was nearly blinded that way two months ago". But on the plus side for being a mental health nurse there, apparently its the only area of mental health in the UK where the government is happy to throw endless money at it.
depends on what the trusts is like. make sure you are employed in a trust which will pay for your training. I know of one which makes you PAY for all your training. really rubbish. dont think I could do broadmoor. I only touch on forensic cases and thats enough for me.
my job is ok at times. but its very stressful and you dont get paid as much as you would like.
