You really need a lot of patience.
I think you'd be good though. |

I always expected to spend most of my life working at a job I hated for peanuts, so I may as well have three years of studying something that I enjoy.

| | | I am doing a psychology & philosophy degree, & have just started 2nd year. my modules for the year are:
research methods (stats etc urgh boring)
cognitive psychology (i am excited about this)
developmental (meh, could be good)
concepts (involves too many presentations :/)
philosophy of mind (good!)
& ancient philosophy (<3 my lecturer is a bald guy who wears makeup & heels)
i'm excited more for next years modules, i get to do more philosophy. but hopefully all the psychology this year should be good, & at least i get to not do neuroscience which is a massive plus. |

for me, i hope to go all the way through grad school (i'm hoping for a PhD) and i'll probably end up teaching at a university. but i've got a long way to go.

So people can do something they enjoy for 3 or 4 years and then just get themselves a decently-paid job and get on with life. However, those positions maybe aren't so abundant as to provide a career for every arts/social sciences graduate in the country.
In Scotland, there's a free degree to be had on the government's money, and cheap loans. Why not go for it? You might be flipping burgers afterwards, but you've spent some years of your life (ideally) doing something fulfilling, and you might have been flipping burgers anyway without ever getting that fulfillment.
Mind you, I already had a career path in place before going to uni and I could go back to that. So I picked a degree course that I felt I'd enjoy. If I get a job/career out of my degree, that's a bonus. If not, I know I'm not going to be flipping burgers for the rest of my life. I guess that's a bit different.

| | | I'm a barista. Studying coffee and where it comes from and why that makes it taste different was boring, but I'm glad that I can make yummy lattes, lol.

How long did your course go for? Mine is only a short course and most of it is done at home, it's boring as hell, but I need a job.

| | atm, astronomy and art history - just classes I need to take so I can graduate in December.
I'm a film major.
sokkar, one of my dreams is to be a college professor, but I can't afford grad school.
It's ok though since I'm not in a place in my life where I could really commit to getting my masters let alone my PhD.

| | | can you not get financial aid? also when you go to grad school, you can often be a student teacher for extra income. grad school isn't cheap, but it definitely seems doable, at least for me (not that i'm looking forward to the debt).
honestly i'd love to do other things than teach, but in the fields i want to study, there isn't much to be done other than teaching or researching and writing books no one will read.

| | | It's more personal stuff and the debt I already have that's keeping me from going. It's in my long term plan, but not for me right now especially after almost six straight years of college.
