| | | Job Interview at Department Store. Help! Ok everyone I would really appreciate your advice and tips.
Basically, I've been put forward to work on a beauty counter at a department store and have an interview next week to get their approval.
This involves a few customer service questions and essentially giving me the once over and making sure I look the part.
I'm quite nervous as essentially I'm just a spaced out, dizzy, grunge kid and used to working for independants and chilled out creative people.
I really really want this job as I am very passionate about two things in my life, music and make up. I've wanted to work for this brand for a while and I need to look immaculate.
Can you please help me advise on how I should dress? Hair, general appearance. Theese girls are always immaculate and I consider myself to be worlds away from that polished, groomed look. I've been told in advance that I'm perfect for the role bubbly, talented etc I just need to be ultra smart.
Has anyone worked for as a make up artist for a department store before? What should I be expected to look like/be questioned about?
This would all help. Thanks a lot. |

| | | well you'll need to look sharp, no grungy clothes and make sure your clothes, hair and makeup are perfect.
as for dealing with the customers....usually bitchy rich women. so learn to bite your tongue even though inside you want to scream!

| | | Those women always look like transvestites. Maybe you could check out some of the local gay bars or butt fuck cabarets and get some tips.
They might come across a little bitchy at first, but it will be good practice for the cunts you'll be dealing with on a daily basis if you get the job. Fuck, if you've spent any amount of time on this festering, extroverted anus of a website, you should already be seasoned in the ways of ridiculous fucking chivs and eyeliner-wearing cock beaters. |

| | | it doesnt take too much to get a job at a department store, no offense. you dont even need an education. just act nice and like you really want the job and can handle it and you'll most likely get it. |

| | | You could find the nearest rival department store and flit from make up counter to make up counter, asking for grooming advice in general and blagging samples because "my skin is really weird and anything can irritate it, so do you have any samples I could try before I commit to buying anything?". Try to find an assistant whose complexion and features are closest to yours and start asking her all the questions you can in order to rip off her grooming & make up tips for the interview next week. Tell the people on the make up counter you're going for an interview next week for a cabin crew position with Emirates Airways (which is probably the closest aesthetic as you'll get to working in a department store make up counter) and you'd appreciate any help you can get on looking the part.

The environment is really nice to work in because I'm surrounded by my favourite products and the other beauty consultant girls have been really friendly. |

| | | Quick Update:
Still loving it...but my oh my, people don't lie when they say beauty counter politics apply!
Some of the girls are so bitchy and have a massive go at you if you within two steps of their counter and there's a customer nearer to them.
It's so silly but I'm learning to see the funnny side instead of letting it get to me.
