| | | Did you change schools? I'd have been too embarrassed to repeat a whole year at the same school. Admittedly I kind of got put up a year when I was little, so repeating one is less likely.

| | | My brother was held back in grade two, and my friend was held back for grade three or four.
One girl I went to school with was held back in grade seven and switched schools because she was embarrassed.
As for me, I just failed a bunch of shit in high school. Never been held back though.

| | | When I moved to the UK from Canada, it was in the middle of a term (February) and since my dad wanted me to go to private school, they said since the year 10 class (14-15yrs) had already started their GCSE coursework etc. I'd probably find it hard catching up so they put me in year 9. I went from GRADE TEN in Canada (15-16, Grad in 2 years) to Year 9 (13-14, four more years before Uni). It was awful.

Do you ever feel like the extra time benefited you, educationally speaking?

| | This is embarrassing but not my fault. When I was about 5 and in kindergarten I was held back because I missed too many days. I missed over half the school year because my parents were going through a divorce and thought it more important to fight with each other than take me to school |

| | | Unless you move from abroad, pretty much no one has to repeat a year here. You just keep going and failing til you are school leaving age. Its pretty impossible to get moved up a year as well, unless your birthday is in September and you could go either way.
My mum moved back to the UK from Canada when she was 12 and they made her repeat a year because the syllabuses were different and 46 years later she is still pissed off about it. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
