| | | Getting a work visa to the US is universally acknowledged to be the biggest nightmare in the world. One of my friends had a job lined up and all and the bank he had a job with still couldn't procure a visa that year with all its contacts and huge legal team... |

why so hard? | Well the policies to do with work visas are pretty harsh and as a UK resident, you aren't eligible to enter the greencard lottery. You need to find a work place that can claim there is a shortage of US citizens able to do your job and sponsor you (for professional jobs, which this would be). If you are a nurse, or coming for temporary seasonal work, its pretty easy. Everything else its pretty hellish. If you just have a job offer (but can't prove you are exceptionally talented and there is a shortage of people in your field) you have to enter a lottery to get one of 40,000 visas they issue for random skilled/unskilled workers a year. I think they hand them out on one day too. My friend tried to get one because her boyfriend was studying in NYC for 6 months and she wanted to be out there with him, but in the end she had to settle for working as a volunteer on a tourist visa.
The original poster might find this helpful as an overview of what sort of visas are available: US Immigration UK, USA Citizenship UK, US Green Cards, Lottery UK, Migration To The USA |

The last part - do you mean the legality/logisitics of moving to the UK or are you asking from a cultural perspective? I didn't fully grasp the question; one would have assumed if your husband is a UK citizen and you being his spouse, it would be a relatively hassle free process (note, I said "relatively").
