moving to Ireland..?

What is the job situation like? I am willing to do just about anything.

I just want a change from my present situation. I have the financial resources to move but I just want to have some idea what I'm in for.

I know this is vague but if anyone could point me to any helpful resources or have any personal experiences, I would definitely appreciate them.

Thanks!

Hi!

I live here
And I love it!

Atm, the economy is a *tad* slow,
so I'd possibly leave it for a few months,
It may be a little hard to find a job.

What kind of work do you *want* to do?

Where are you moving from?

Ireland is pretty small, and in underdeveloped in some ways!
And everyone knows everyone!
But, its a fun place to be.

Any idea where you're moving to?
Do you have somewhere lined up to stay?

and *why* do you want to move here!

Where do you live? If you're willing to work for minimum wage then you shouldn't have much of a problem but then again it would really depend on the field of employment you're looking into. Ireland has experienced significant economic slowdown in the past year and jobs are becoming more and more scarce, but a new government has been put in place recently so things might start to look up in the future. The cost of living is sky-high too. Switzerland, Norway and Sweden are the places to go if you're looking for a good job with a good standard of living, and I'd say the UK's your best bet if you're looking to hit closer to communications.

pretty competitive jobs wise but I'd look into finding a job first before moving naturally. Dublin has more going on than any other city but the cost of living is sky high so Galway or Cork would be better. You should check out FÀS here, they're an agency that helps get jobs for people willign to do anything.

Where in Ireland are you moving? I can give you agencies I used when I moved there (Dublin) that were actually good. Just beware that all Irish government organisations are SLOW AS FUCK. So you might be waiting weeks for your tax number. You will need that before you can open a bank account.. To open a bank account is really quite difficult if you have nothing with your address on it.

What kind of work do you do?

Depending on where you come from, be warned that you may feel as though you are entering some kind of time warp.

This cannot be overstated. It's so true.

And according to the news we're at the start of a recession. Awesome. If you are moving to Dublin the rent in the city centre will be ridiculous you'd be better off staying in the suburbs if you don't mind the commute. I suggest somewhere near a luas (tram) line or the dart because our bus system is a joke.

This is also very true. Sometimes I waited 3 hours for a bus to Swords, then 3 would show up at once. Or they would all be too full to let me on etc. I just couldn't afford to even live IN Dublin. I didn't feel safe standing on the side of Swords Rd waiting for hours in the dark either.

Very very frustrating if you have no car.

I had huge troubles opening a bank account there until I signed a lease for a house and had an address. It needed to have my name on it. They claimed it was because people had been using Irish banks to launder money for years or something. So they "got tough".

Wouldn't blame you Swords is a bit dodgy at the best of times. Had to the get the bus over there once or twice. It was an experience.

I used to get the 77a which is supposed to be every 20 minutes in town. Try every 45 minutes if you're lucky. In the mean time three of every other bus would fly by totally fucking empty. I have all this to look forward to again when I start college. I'll be getting a bus thats like the vehicular version of Brigadoon.
