| | | becoming an air hostess or stewardess or cabin crew or whatever they're called now.
i'm thinking about applying. i'm graduating from university this summer, and i've been umming and ahh-ing for ages about whether to get a professional job straight away and start working my way up the career ladder, or do some temping work for a few months and then do loads of travelling next year.
and basically i don't really want to do either. i don't want to get a proper serious "grown up" job yet, but i don't really want to do loads of temping jobs either, because i've done it before over uni holidays and it's a pain in the arse having to start a new job every two or so weeks and usually involves loads of mundane shite.
and cabin crew seems like a sort of compromise, i get to travel and i get paid for it as well. and i have a couple of acquaintances (not really friends, so i probably won't see them in the near future to ask them about it) who work as cabin crew and LOVE it.
obviously it's not something i'd want to do forever but i think it might be good fun for a while. has anyone done it? know anyone who's done it? share experiences please! |

| | | I think you should go for it. Like you said, its not a permanent career and it would be a good way to see a bit of the world. I have a friend who works for Virgin Airlines and she gets great perks, she often gets stopovers for a few days in really exotic places! The only downside is all the training programmes. She said there was a lot of fitness training, and diving to the bottom of pools to save bricks etc... |

| | | you make good money, and get to travel.
the downside is that you are away a lot so pets and relationships can be hard.
it's a good job for someone with no commitments and you meet lots of people.

And how they give you lifejackets, as if you're actually going to survive if you crash into water. Why not give you parachutes? That would make more sense to jump before the thing crashes. |

I never used to be afraid of flying as a child, because for some reason I thought there was a parachute alongside the lifejacket... Apparently little planes have their own parachutes actually attached to the outer frame (i.e. a giant plane parachute) incase something goes wrong to get them safely back to earth. Why don't jumbos?? |

| | | If you can do it, then go for it!
I would love to be a hostess on an airplane but here in Canada I'm pretty sure you need to be bilingual (which I am definitely not) I should take a course in French or something.
