it doesnt depress me and my situation, i suppose. i need to find another job by july, but I am not too worried about it yet. i am worried about my parents, though. my dad has been unemployed for a couple of months and i dont know for how much longer. it worries me that they are having a hard time financially, but he is also very depressed. he has never not worked so he feels inadequate. im helping as much as i can, but im living in an expensive city and 'all that i can' can't be very much.

i have a job which was hard as **** to get but if it were a cupcake it would be the icing, totally non-essential, so i worry about getting laid off. the state i live in, michigan, has the worst economy of the entire U.S.

I don't find it depressing so much as annoying, not jut in the US but the Irish economy is all over the shop. Seriously, I dunno WHAT is going on in this country anymore. Our government has problems staring them right in the face and instead they're pouring all the investments into the most ridic and unecessary schemes (not to mention private jets and pools for the lovely politicians). Top notch educational system, thank you, but our hospitals are a joke, the cost of living is sky high and it's no wonder every tom dick and juliana is on the dole. Hopefully with the introduction of a new government things will start to improve, else we're in for a v rude awakening. We've grown way too complacent and foolish since the economic boom in the nineties and the foreigners are taking advantage of our stupidity and working for half-nothing so they can send the money home. Poland is gonna be the place to be within ten years, I'm movin there.

Anyway the Chinks are gonna take over as the world's leading superpower before you know it so hopefully the US govt (especially with a democratic system) will accordingly wake up and smell the coffee.

The thing that cracks me up are all the economic forecasters on CNBC claiming it isn't a recession and everything will be A-OK by 2009. Oh really? The US debt is nearly at one zillion. I never thought I'd hear "zillion" used in a serious context, but seems we will be hearing it pretty soon.

Things in the 3rd wave Prairie aren't so bad yet, compared to other places in the US I'd been reading about, but it'll catch up here eventually. Where my family lives you'd never know the economy is so terrible (aside from gas prices) without the help of national news networks. I'm getting ready to forsake my cushy waitressing life for a useful trade regardless, as well as keeping a large vegetable garden.

I agree with calalove, though--it's more scary than depressing.
