| | | Tattoos and body Mods. @ the workplace So I have seen alot of your guys work and it is pretty damn amazing, but I am curious as to what kind of jobs you all have. I have 2 tattoos and 3 peircings one of which is my tounge and my boss at my new job is having a cow over it. I hate the fact that you can't have a job and be yourself. I so want a job where I can have tattoos and facial peircings and my pink hair with out people go crazy. I dont want to conform to society damn it(HAHA)..
anyways back to what I was saying where do you guys work or whats your profession???
Thanks |

| | | Well, I work in a job where I have to look professional and I can't have any visible tattoos, except maybe something tiny and non-offensive like something small on the ankle. I have a lot of tattoos though, and I have to get them in places that won't show at work. I have made the sacrifice of never being able to wear sleeveless or short-sleeved shirts to work in the summer. I have to wear sleeves down to the elbow to cover my upper arm and shoulder tattoos. I've spent a lot of time searching the stores for work shirts with sleeves down to the elbow, but which are also thin and light so that I won't be hot in them in the summer. And I've gotten a lot of tattoos on my back also since that is an easy place to cover for work. You just have to make a decision, are you going to completely reject conformity and also rule out ever getting a professional job? |

| | | That is such a hard decision to make. It makes me think to the old saying "dont judge a book by the cover" but people do and i hate that. I wish people were open minded but obviously they are not. It is plastered everywhere be yourself , but they are hypocrits for saying that because society wont let it happen.. I think it is one big fucking sham..
sorry I am letting off steam...lol.. |

| | | I work part time in a lovely little independent bookshop, where they don't mind my piercings or tattoos - hell, the co-owner has wonderfully grungy hair and a lip piercing himself.
I also work on a voluntary basis with children and adults with autism and learning disabilities and the charity I do that with has no problem with visible tattoos/piercings, as long as the piercings aren't a danger to anyone (so nothing uh, "yankable").

| | | at my work a lot of people have visible tattoos...i have one on my calf, the lady who sits beside me has one on the back of her neck, two of the male ad builders have full sleeves (they are my dad's age)...there are also various crazy hair styles and tattoos. We work at a newspaper so it might be a little more liberal but when I worked in retail they asked my friends to remove peircings and cover tattoos. One girl at my work has a beautiful arm piece that she shows off everyday.
I think we are lucky that way... |

| | | I work for the Australian government and have piercings/tattoos and wear metal shirts to work. Other people wear suits but I never deal with the public so they don't care what I wear.

| | | I worked construction. so they don't really care about shit. Except the monroe I have I was constantly having to hide it from the manager cause he would always tell me that it was going to get caught on something. I would think that if it got caught on something my face would be fucked anyhow regardless of a peircing being pulled through it. He was an old fucker anywyas. It's weird for someone to NOT have a tattoo where i used to work.
Now I am going towards an Medical type background, so the weird hair and monroe goes. Which sucks, but I had a good run with being weird. |

| | | I work in retail as a beauty advisor so I'm pretty much fucked. We can't even have two earrings in one ear! I have small tattoos in discrete places and I've just had to come to terms with the fact that I just cannot have the stuff I would like done. It's shit. I feel your pain |

| | | I work in a call centre and they don't care as long as you have no visible tattoos that may cause offence ie if they have swear words on them, so tattoos and peircings are generally fine. |

| | | I work at a grocery store, and tattoos and piercings are no problem there. A lot of us have tats; one employee is completely covered from the neck down. It's sort of a hippy, organic food store. |

| | | I work for a big corporate company and i've never had any problems with having piercings, or tattoos. I used to dye my hair all sorts of colours and that was ok too. However, i cover up my half sleeve, mostly because i hate talking about tattoos with people.

| | | when i started here i had my ears stretched (now removed) and no one said anthything. i don't have any tatts that are visible (yet) so they haven't been an issue but we have a few people with very visable peircings and tatts and they don't seem to mind.
my plan is a half sleeve starting sometime this year and eventually a full one.

| | ears... im 17 and in college, ive stretched my ears to 22mm and i cant get a (full time)job. i have a job catering occasionally but they dont know i have my ears stretched because i take out my tunnels and push my hair back to cover the holes. but while at work i do hear comments from people talking about my ears. i want to work somewhere with people smart enough to understand that i doesnt matter how you look, its how well you work. anyone got any ideas of proffesions that accept looks or am i fucked for life now?
