Burning Pepper Fingers

Not sure this should be in Bath & Body. Feel free to move it.

I'd like to talk about how ****ty it when you get burning pepper fingers.

You know... like when you cut hot peppers and the oils make your fingers burn like a mother ****er for hours on end?

Last night I cut up some jalapenos but was careful to wash my hands right after because I've had the evil burn before and thought this would be good enough to prevent it. I thought I was in the clear, but about an hour or maybe more later my pinky finger started to get hot. I was ****ed, but it didn't seem as bad as the first time it happened to me, which was pure torture.

Then, after washing my face with hot water, my ring finger started to burn and then the tip of the middle finger. It had spread somehow? Even though I'd washed my hands several times.

I couldn't sleep with my hand under the blanket cause it hurt to damn much if it was in a hot area. I kept it in front of a fan instead ahaha. Any kind of pressure on the fingers causes them to heat up and before more irritated.

I didn't really try to cure it this time, since last time I tried pretty much everything. Milk, hand creams, ice, whatever.

What do you people use to cure the evil burn of hot peppers?

How long do you usually burn for? I'm going on 24 hours, but it's very mild right now.

you could try burn ointment/diaper rash cream

One of the guys I went to school with was a souix chef( or however it is spelled) and he had cut up A LOT of peppers at once. He told me the only thing that took the burn away was sticking his entire hand into a gallon of ice cream.

I don't remember him saying how long it lasted except he wanted to cut his hands off like an animal with their paw in a trap. I once got wasabi in my eye. That sucked. Maybe some aloe vera. Although I am not sure it would help too much. I know sugar will take the burn from your mouth faster than normal, but I don't think this would work wiht your hands.

thats what would happen to me
i would manage to not wash it off from around my nails well enough or something and then end up touching my eye and setting it to burning
i wonder if eyedrops on finger would do anything to soothe the burn?

Urgh, getting something like that in your eye would be terrible. How long did THAT burning last?

I guess I got at least some of the oil off in time, because not all of my fingers were burning (it's all stopped now) but the first time it happened to me was really intense. It was all I could talk or think about. Cutting off your fingers does seem like a good idea when you're in that situation.

I'm definitely using gloves next time, or a Quick Chop haha.
