I got the shot. Last week or some such, at work along with the regular seasonal shot. I'm not sure why we got them when it seems so scarce - I didn't have to make an argument about being the parent of an infant or anything. There wasn't enough for everyone and it was first-come, so I went early. But the people who went late said they still had it.

I had mine along with my seasonal flu shot yesterday. Nurse was a bit weird about giving it but it turns out mine was only the 4th swine flu she'd given cause their stocks had only just come in. She did insist on giving it to me right at the start of the appointment in case I dropped dead. But no dropping dead, no dystonia and no Gullian-Barré. Got some fucking sore arms though because she did one in each.

In the UK, its immunocompromised, chronic health conditions, preggos and over 65s only at the moment, but it didn't seem like there was a massive rush at my surgery. Think people want to wait a bit and see if people drop dead of the vaccine first.

no, but i did have cholera earlier this year.
so i win. at sick.
if i can defeat cholera, i can defeat swine flu.
also, because i work for the state, it's covered if i have go on as sick, because of actual swine flu i caught from a kid, they pay me anyway!
and i could really milk that.
infact. maybe if i get swine flu it'll take me 4-6 weeks to fully recover.

Not sure the flu appreciates your immune systems past victories- I had confirmed Eastern Equine Encephalomyelitis last year- to my knowledge only the second case in Europe EVER and whilst I felt really quite rough, that was fine. Another time- 2 weeks in hospital and near death from the common cold.

What I am curious about is if the UK and the US are both in a massive flu epidemic, which they both are, why have 4,000+ people died in the US to about 125 in the UK? Is this one of those rare occasions we get to go yay NHS?

How does the population ratio line up?

My stepsister's older kid has it. Am I a terrible person for wondering if they'll come to Thanksgiving?
