Breast cancer in the family and genetic testing.

Has anyone else who has a history of breast cancer in the family been for a genetic screening test thing? I mentioned my aunt and grandmother on my dads side having it to my doctor when I was there for something else and didn't think it was passed down that route but apparently it is and now they are testing my genes and I am a bit freaked out. I am especially freaked out because theere were two women on the telly this morning who has been for the test and when they found out they had the gene they both had a double masectomy.

if, and it is a big if, your grandmother carries one of the cancer succeptibility genes, then it is a one in four chance you carry it.

but it is quite likely, i mean properly statistically likely, that your relatives' breast cancers were just coincidence and not genetically linked
