scared about my electrocardiogram tomorrow

if there is one thing i hate it's medical tests. the uncertainty and the waiting.

at first i was laughing at the cardiology team from my hospital bed, who i now know have a great reputation, because i thought it was ridiculous that anything could be wrong with my heart at age 25. and being in the hospital for infectious colitis wasn't exactly heart related... or so i thought.

when i was in maine for thanksgiving i got pulled over by the police while driving my mothers car and i got anxious. my heart was beating in a really strange way, it felt like the rhythm was off and it scared me even more.

this is just a general bitch. i dont know of any other places where negativity is so commonly accepted. hi kittyradio.

are you getting an EKG or an echocardiogram? an echo will show your EF and a low EF would explain reduced blood flow to "non essential" organs, which is i guess why they associated the colitis with a possible heart issue. were you honest with them about your social history? the infectious part, i can't explain, but if it's ischemic, yes. you should be thankful you live in NYC.

and an echo is not scary. its very easy and painless. i know that worrying over the results is the hard part, but i wanted to assure you that either the echo, or an EKG are not in the least painful and are over quickly.

im not being very reassuring.

listen even if there is something that is an issue, you are young and that means the world in terms of being able to remain healthy. at absolute worst youll need a defibrillator, which really isnt that big of a deal. it will keep you alive if you go into a fatal arrhythmia otherwise you hardly notice it.

will you let me know how you are? PM if you dont want to talk with the kr kiddies in tow.

Just stay calm, that's the only (rubbish) advice I can give. If you're freaking out it might interfere with the results, and then they'll need MORE tests = more freaking out.
Good luck!
