Unhappy Birth control...Weight gain? Anyone else experience or fix this?

Hi,

So long story short I've been on birth control (just a basic pill) for about a year. In this year I've gained 20lbs. I've never had a weight problem before and I've even been eating healthier because I noticed I immediately starting gaining weight once I started the pill. At first I didnt get alarmed because I figured I would gain a little weight but now it's getting ridiculous.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution to it?

I've been thinking about trying to switch my pill. Has this worked for anyone?

I would just get off of it but I do like the extra security it gives me and my fiance and I do like the positive effects on my period.

Thanks for your replies I'm feeling awful lately. I just feel as though no matter what I do I have no control over my weight anymore and thats a scary thought. I never had to work to be a healthy weight.

well lots of people say that birth control doesn't actually make you gain weight. BUT i've had it happen to me too so i don't believe them. haha

i switched pills and it immediately stopped, so you should do that until you find one that works for you!

Some pills can increaseyour appetite. That's why it's best you go to a gyno first and let him prescribe what's best for your body. I've gain weight, but not from the pills. Watch what you eat.

Some pills are weaker than others, they should give you less weight gain.
I have experienced that and the only way to stop it was to stop taking the pill. Some people don´t have that reaction but if you do, you won´t be able to stop it, unless you eat and exercise more, but the thing is the pill makes you retain water and swell.
Also, a lot of people don´t mention it, if you smoke or have/had problems with depression, the pill is not for you.

Yes, try another pill. I was 110 for most of my entire life, a size 0 (not that I was happy about it, I desperately wanted to gain weight). About a year into being on the pill I started putting on pounds. About 2 years into it I reached 140lbs which was INSANE to me. I decided to start exercising but nothing really happened. I switched pills and within 6 months I dropped to 125lbs. So I definitely think switching may help.

I actually decided yesterday to stop them complete. I always sorta hated the idea of something that alters what your body is meant to do naturally. Now that I'm married I don't much care about the risk of getting pregnant, though I'd rather wait another year or two. We've decided to look into more natural BC but that requires an insane commitment so I don't recommend it if you're just dating or sleeping around or what have you.

What brand are you on now?
