IUDs

I'm considering getting a copper IUD (paraguard), and I've read up on them and all, but I don't know anyone who has an IUD.

Experiences?
Do they fall out?
Is is tricky to find the strings?
Did you accidentally get pregnant?

My mum did (get pregnant) when she had a coil, but that was 23 years ago so technology's probably moved on?

Personally I find the idea of something unnatural in my uterus just a bit fucking freaky.

have you had kids? i think they are more recommended for people who have given birth already

i know TONS of people who have them. i only don't have one yet because i'm so freaked out about getting inserted. anything touching my cervix makes me queasy

the paraguard usually gives people heavier periods. the mirena gives lighter periods and sometimes they disappear altogether. the mirena gives spotting for several months before you settle into it though.

i dont think they usually fall out.

i do know someone who had a miscarriage with the foetus formed around the iud. i also read online someone who got pregnant with an iud in place. i think it is really really rare though. if you do get pregant they decide whether to remove it or continue the pregnancy wiht it in place. you have a high chance of miscarriage either way i think.

i would like to get the mirena. as long as i can get over the quease.

See, that's the thing, I've never had children.
Mirena is not available unless you've had a child, but paraguard apparently works either way.

And I don't care about having a piece of metal that tiny (its smaller than a golf tee) in my uterus, I'd never feel it. And I think birth control as a whole is unnatural and gross. I hate taking the pill everyday and pumping my body full of artificial horomones; but that's birth control, you have to do it by some shitty method anyway.

I have issues with the pill
The implant was recently taken off the market
I'm not ready to get my tubes tied

So it really comes down to an IUD or the shot. And my health insurance runs out in a month, and I'd need the shot every 3 months. While an IUD lasts between 5-12 years.

I'd rather just have the tiny thing put up there, and then not have to worry about babies for a decade.
