| | | Over-active thyroid aka hyperthyroidism. Does anyone here have this? I think I do as I have every symptom of it and have to go and discuss the results of a blood test I had with my doctor on Thursday. I'm really nervous and want to know if anyone has it or knows someone who does?

| | | I do I have Hyperthyroidism, Graves Disease(could they POSSIBLY make is sound any worse??). My blood levels have been so up and down, it's been so confusing! At first they wanted to do radiation to remove my thyroid, but after looking online and talking to people online I chose not to. I have adjusted my diet and it helps, but the blood levels are still whacky. Its such a difficult situation. Endocrinologist;s are much more used to HYPOthyroidism. I am really annoyed by it. |

it was really fucking horrible, whatever it was | I remember that... I have had the same thing happen. might need to go there when I can actually feel the lump in my throat next. Apparently it is really hard to diagnose.

Apparently it is really hard to diagnose. | I had one test come back abnormal. I went and got a fancy dancy(expensive as hell) test done and they diagnose me with an extremely enlarges and hyperactive thyroid. Two months later, I finally got an appointment with an Endocrinologist and THOSE tests happened to come back normal. They cut me off of my meds, and told me to come back in two months (yeah right, pay them again??).
I don't know who to believe, the tests Are up and down...I just do my best to eat a diet that supports my 'condition'. |

Had a similar thing recently with allergy testing where everything including the positive test sample came back negative so he said I am allergic to nothing.
He did however decide to send me for ct scans of my sinuses/nose because he thinks it may have been crushed when I broke my nose. Which is handy, though I cannot afford to get the scans done yet

| | | i'm a little concerned about my thyroid. i'm not sure what all parts of my body it effects, but i just get this feeling that i need to worry about it.
is there a gland on the side of your neck? for a year i've felt a little knot there, nothing you can see, but i can feel it, somedays it feels like there's a big bruise there(but there's not), and it's only the one side of my neck.
maybe i'm thinking of something else? |

| | | Your thyroid is at the front of your throat, I'm pretty sure. The glands at the side of your neck are lymph nodes.

Perfect Tonight- think you made the right decision not to have your thyroid irradiated. About 80% of people with Graves disease who do do that end up with hypothyroidism cause they zap it too much and then thats a lifetime to taking thyroxine. Whereas because Graves Disease is autoimmune, it can spontaneously clear itself up for long peroids. |

| | | Thyroxine stealing is tempting for the weight loss. Probably not for the anxiety, heart palpitations and hyperdefecation (my new favourite word). |

| | | Yeah, very very rarely the palpitations and fast heart rate of hyperthyroidism can actually be fatal. Glad my thyroid works pretty fine. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
