I'm saying generally people will think that I, as a member of a Right To Life organization, only care about ending legal abortion and nothing else. I'm saying that isn't the case. Nor do I think that would solve all the problems. It's part of a solution. And even if we come up with a good solution I'm aware there will always be abortion, just like there will always be awful things among us.

I had a termination many years ago, and to be honest, I really believed that the foetus would be dead, before removal. I didn't really understand the procedural process. But I DID know that I was not in a place,mentally, to be able to nurture and love the baby that I was expecting. I still think about that potential person, not every day now, but very often. I wouldn't change my stance. I believe that, if you choose to have a child, then you should do your utmost to be there for that child, most importantly, emotionally. And I wouldn't have been.
I have worked with children who have special needs for about 15 years now, and also with children who have SEVERE attachment issues, because that parent has been, for whatever reason, unable to bond with that child. The long term effects on those children, are enormous, lifelong, and extremely distressing.
I work with children who are suffering from extreme neglect, and abuse, both physical and emotional. The trauma of this will live with these children forever. It prevents them from coping with school, with social situations. They have no trust, they are isolated and extremely vulnerable. Because you cannot see any outward signs of this, they are labelled as 'difficult, devious, akward, unlikeable...'
THIS is the truly sad fact of some childrens' lives. I would far rather that someone has a termination, than condemn their child to a life that really is a living hell.  | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes |  Linear Mode |
