Back pain advice needed

I promise I'm not spamming the forum today, though it could be something to do with the revision I'm meant to be doing. I have been getting quite bad pain in my lower back recently that's spreading to my upper back and shoulders, especially after I've just got up. Most of my day is spent sitting at a desk which is pretty much unavoidable since I'm a student. My exams will be over and I'll be free at the end of May, but I don't want to be a complete wreck by then or to be in pain all the time, so if anyone has advice about how to relieve it I'd be really grateful.

Because I'm in rented accommodation and poor I can't really go out and buy a new mattress or chair (my chair is padded with a high back), but suggestions other than those would be very helpful. Thanks.

exercise.

apparently sit ups are good for back pain.

this is what my doctor tells me anyways. i've had bad back pain since i was 16, and i do notice that when i exercise on a regular basis it's much better.

can you go to your doctor? they can give you pain medication which might help a little, but probably they will just tell you to exercise.

Sit ups are good at GIVING me back pain.

Try yoga? That's meant to be really good for stretching out sore backs.

I dunno about you but I'm fairly certain my back pain (upper, mostly) is linked to my having god-awful posture. One trick to improve your posture is to stick your stomach out. You feel so fat while you're doing it but it works. your back straightens and you can feel your shoulders moving into place and all.

i used to get that when i had a shitty mattress.

i'd put a pillow under my lower back. it helped me
