Emdometriosis; worth investigating?

I've finally got to see a gynaecologist who originally thought it might be polycystic ovarian syndrome, but after those tests came back clear, he thinks it might be endometriosis. The only thing is, i am not to keen on going under anaesthetic for a laparoscopy and wondered if anyone here who had been diagnosed properly actually benefited from it or tried the hormone treatment?

It does sound dumb to want to turn it down, but since there isn't really a cure, i'd rather try something like the mirena coil first. Especially since i haven’t been well the past couple of years which makes me hesitant to the operation.

Anybody?

I kind of feel the same way you do. I have always had really heavy, terrible periods, I get a lot of pelvic pain and random bleeding between periods- sometimes I cough or something and it actually feels like something tears inside and I get breakthrough bleeding 30 seconds later etc. However I am not mad keen to have a general anaesthetic etc just to be told I have something that can't be cured. I am already on the pill and I don't want to do much more messing about with my hormones so I just don't know...

Yeah, there was a good article in Look magazine a while ago titled 'Are your periods normal?' And in it were 4 girls who all had seperate problems that went for years misdiagnosed. The girl who finally got diagnosed with endometriosis had a laparoscopy and then underwent surgery to remove a lot of it, but she said it made her periods no better and was told to consider conceiving and then have a hysterectomy... But when she saw a new consultant he suggested fitted the coil to help controll the blood loss and she said it cured her completely (well the symptoms). Which i guess is partly why i felt like trying that route first, also a friend of mine was diagnosed and just ended up on the pill.

A girl at my school has endometriosis.

She went through a lot of operations and stuff and I think it helped. I'm sorry, I don't know a lot about it. I don't know the details

My stepsister has it, as well as POS. hormones all out of whack. But the worst thing I think is the fact that she can't have a normal pregnancy because her ovaries are covered with cysts. She went through the nightmare of a ruptured fallopian tube after an (undetected) ectopic pregnancy, bled internally and lost a LOT of blood and had to go into emergency surgery.

not to scare you, but i think its best to do everything you can to keep the condition from getting worse.
