| | Here's a stop smoking meditation mp3 that helped immensely when I quit. I just love this lady's voice. Very soothing and relaxing....and it's something to do for 20 minutes. http://sendshack.com/download/6xfv2x
Once the 72-hour mark is past, it gets much, much easier. Good luck to you, and hang in there.... |

| | | Are you on any sort of NRT? If not and you're going bugshit, get patches ASAP! Different methods work for different people, for some could turkey works, I tried Zyban but it didn't work - last time I stopped I did it with patches. Any method requires willpower but I found having the patch on 24 hours helped a hell of a lot when first stopping, I too am on day 3 of not smoking and am doing OK, the odd manic jones-ing, but it DOES pass. Do anything to ride the urge out, post about it, eat something, brush your teeth. Try to remember, you made a conscietious decision to quit for a reason - if you got to a point where you decided to stop, it's a habit you definitely need to overcome (that's kind of a mantra at my worst times). Good luck, I know how you feel!

The best thing you can do is get the nicotine out of your system as quickly as possible by drinking lots of water and fruit juice. Then all you have to deal with is reprogramming the mental aspects of the smoking habit. By keeping nicotine in your system you are just prolonging the physical withdrawl symptoms, i.e. low blood sugar, upset stomach, etc....
But alas, you're right. Different methods work for different people. |

| | | Get a script for Chantix and keep the hair. Trust me, I would smoke in the shower if possible when I did. Now? Pfft.
Been almost 7 months, was off Chantix within the first month. Don't miss cigs a bit.
Also, you know how your whole body feels like it's going apeshit? It's all in your head. Powerful effects but all in the head nonetheless.
As you quit with Chantix, you start to learn that. Once the nicotine receptors aren't as numerous, you don't miss it. Although on occassion it'll come to you in a passing thought. I always write it off to the body cleaning out and shook some stuff loose. A few seconds later you forgot all about it. |

| | | Good luck. I quit over a year ago by just going cold turkey and chewing gum, just normal gum not the nicotine gum. It's worth it. You feel better and it's a lot cheaper to be a non smoker. |

| | | This is really lame advice, but maybe try drinking some herbal tea that promotes relaxation? There's some really good ones from "Traditional Medicinals".

| | | i wish i quit smoking. i am having such a hard time just doing it. i get so emotional and go crazy looking in the yard, going through the pantries, etc to see if there are any that i threw out or left around. it's really mental. that alone should deter me from smoking but i can't seem to let it go. im going to try again tomorrow. i tried today but caved and bought a pack of cigarettes. why why why am i so dumb about this? my cigs are $7.50 a pack and that's about $225/month to make myself gross. wtf am i doing? im going to try downloading that meditation posted above. |

| | Oh Lordy, I feel you Meg!
I quit too, on Friday last. I was intending to quit on Monday (yesterday) but I ran out of cigs and was determined NOT to buy another carton when I had smoked up the one I had going.
And I smoked A LOT. For 20 yrs + ('cept whenever I was pregs, & also for about 2.5 yrs in teh late 80's.)
Sheesh.
This. Is. Not. Fun.
And yeah it's cold turkey for me. I hate gum srsly, and the patches etc make my heart hammer for some reason.
Omg. I really loved smoking too.
LUCK to all of us.

| | | I'm on day three, attempt II with Chantix. I would have quit, I think, had my boyfriend not kept smoking and had it not been for finals. This time I'm done done. Wisconsin just hiked cig prices and I will not pay.
The Chantix works but it has not been without side effects. The nausea has been pretty bad and it makes me pretty edgy. People have different side effects though, some people have none at all! |

| | | On day 9 so far. Up & down, but have gotten this far already, can't face the psychological torture of slipping up and starting from square one again, which is the only thing keeping me going at the moment.
Good luck everyone!

| | | Hang in there guys. The feelings of boredom, mental triggers and wtf to do with myself at regular times when you smoked subside pretty quickly once you're over the initial stages of withdrawal. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | |
