| | | Vertigo/Heights Does anyone here suffer from genuine vertigo? I get this strange feeling whenever I'm at a great height, for example the top row in a theatre or stadium, and I'm looking down. My whole body feels like it's actually falling, if that makes any sense. I'd put it down to a fear of heights but I'm not actually afraid of heights, and also I get the same sensation when I'm watching TV and someone is standing on the edge of a cliff or building, like it's an optical illusion.
Does anyone else get that or am I just a freak of nature? |

| | | I get both vertigo in day to day life (feel like I am falling whilst walking along) and I am also afraid of heights (I'll go but I will be miserable). |

| | | I think my vertigo-esque symptoms are more psychological. As in: I'm scared of heights, there's nothing up with my balance.
I get giddy on a fucking stepladder.
Yesterday I dared myself to sit on the ledge of my boyfriend's third floor window. It was terrifying. I kept leaning TOWARDS the long drop as opposed to the bed on the other side of the window, I couldn't help it.

| | | yes, i hate heights. always have done. and i know what you mean about that falling feeling, except i would describe it as feeling like my heart is falling or stretching down...that sounds fucking weird but that's really what it's like.
i get pretty sick of people making fun of me for it. like when i was little, we had to go on a school camp and there was an absailing activity. but it was so high up that i refused to do it, and every single person, the fucking instructors as well, made fun of me for it. fucking cunts. |

| | Yes. I hate even looking down from escalators, or looking at other people on heights that makes me dizzy too is that normal?? It took me until I was 18 to go up the ladder to our attic and I cried like a gobshite the whole 10 steps up. Still makes me feel spinny when I think of it. |

| | | I experience vertigo but it doesn't always entail fear. I'm usually fine if there's a barrier or something.
But no barriers - naw. Just can't do it. I panic and feel paralyzed and sick.
My dad has an intense fear of heights. It doesn't matter if he's enclosed by tall stone walls, as long as he can look down and know that he's way above ground level, he'll panic. |

| | | I had vertigo once while walking around the Florida Keys. It was awful. I had to hold on to my mother the entire time because I feel like I would fall over at any second. Not to mention, it made me dizzy and with that came nausea and vomiting. I honestly don't even know why I got it that day, I haven't had it since. I just woke up that morning and I couldn't keep my balance. Awful!
I do get the same feeling when I am high above ground, but I think that is a natural reaction, to be afraid of heights? I don't know...I don't know many people who AREN'T afraid of heights. |

| | Most people I've spoken to don't get this at all so I wondered how common it was. I went to a gig where we had seats on the very top row of the stands and it was horrific, ended up sneaking in to the standing bit |

| | | i have a huge problem with stadium or arena seats.
my boyfriend and i go to hockey games a lot, and he actually gets mad at me if the only seats he can get are high up and i'll refuse to go. even if i am sitting in my seat with no danger of falling, i can't breathe and i get all panicky. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
