neck/shoulder cramping

omg. i never had this before but it's happened twice lately:
I'll be yawning and stretching behind my desk and spreading my arms and stretching them and I tend to make this movement with my neck then...never had a problem before but now twice I felt this incredible pain all of a sudden...like it was cramping and it was blocked (my neck/shoulder area) or maybe like a nerve or sth.
but it's really quite painful and I can hardly move after it and I keep on feeling it fr a couple of hours after. and it kinda burns.

what the hell is this?

Using the computer too much maybe... I've just been at a massage because I woke up unable to move my neck/arms. The guy told me not to put heat on it but ice.

yeah. I guess it might be the computer thing. I have to use my computer all the time and it's always on my right side, i.e. the side where my mouse is.....hmmm.

i get something really similiar, which the doctor said is caused by a muscle spasm in your neck, so i dont know if it is exactly the same as yours, but might be worth looking into. mine was caused by too much tennis.

You shouldn't have your computer screen to one side, it should be right in front of you like in this picture:

It's really easy to get RSI (repetitive strain injury) without doing anything particularly strenuous. I used to work at an Occupational Health centre, where they assessed work conditions, and poor posture at your work desk can really mess up your back.

safe office advice

You should try to get regular breaks where you stand up and walk around, perhaps even doing a spot of office yoga.

The good news is, this is easily fixable and now you're aware of it, you can rectify the problem. You'll probably feel a lot better in about a week, if you change your workstation appropriately. I hope you feel better soon!
