neck spasms

every once in a blue moon i get these muscle spasms that basically end up meaning i cant move my neck off my shoulder for the best part of the day and it is obviously pretty painful, (its apparently from either playing too much rugby or too much tennis as a kid, the doctor was delightfully vague about that) all my doctor suggested to get rid of it was swimming (which ignores the fact i already swim twice a week) and so wasnt very helpful. when i asked about other stuff, like physio, she said it would be a waste of time, so i was wondering do any of you guys know much about exercies, e.g. yoga etc that might help, or whether you think going to a homeopath might help? my doctor is basically shite unless its something she can give you pills for, so any suggestions would be welcome! it only happens a few times a year but its happening more frequently as i get older so i would like to sort it now
