I have never been on the pill, but I'm just curious if anyone on here has ever had a serious side effect from the pill, such as blood clot, heart attack, stroke, or anything else serious, or if you know anyone who has. I'm curious just how common these serious complications are.

Well they do give you the statistical likelihood of all of these events in the pill literature.... Apparently you are more likely to be killed falling off a ladder than you are from taking the pill.

There needs to be ONE pill thread, rather than 40. Just saying.

My friend was on the pill and started getting really major cramps all day, everyday and now her ovaries are all fucked and she might not be able to have babies.

however, this chick is a notorious hyperchondriac so she could be just full of shit...

my friend Kate was suicidal after taking the pill...she had to go on four different types before she found one that didn't make her sick

I've read those statistics, I just want to read some real-life stories. And I know there are tons of pill threads in this forum, sorry. If it helps this is probably the first pill thread I've ever made and it will also be the last.

My mother got a big clot in her leg from it. My family has a history of thrombosis and stroke though- every woman in it almost, has died of a stroke- so I'm not allowed to take the pill. I think if you have no family history, then you are pretty much okay.

If I am not mistaken, the pill makes ya gain weight...and too much weight could kill you...so the pill could potentially kill you...althought not very likely. I am scared to death about going on it but my boyf wants me to. I just think it is so unnatural and f*cks up more sh*t in your system than does good.

I have been on the pill for five years and haven't had anything bad happen to me.
I was on dianette, a pretty heavy pill, first for a couple years for my acne but it didn't work for me because my acne wasn't hormonal.
now i'm on mircette or sth.

and actually the pill doesn't make you gain weight. sorry girls, no excuses. This is a myth that is believed by many because usually girls start the pill during their teens at a time that they are likely to gain weight any way due to puberty. the weight gain is then incorrectly linked to the pill.

It annoys me when people want to swear but don't. Just use the words or pick different ones!

I've been on the pill for about 3 years, so far I have had no serious side effects other than this one pill that gave me thrush every month with my period.
I had to try a few different pills to find one that suited me. I'm one Dianette atm for my skin, in the summer I tend to switch to loestrin 30 because my skin isn't bad in the summer but it is in the winter.

huh. the last couple of months I've also been getting a yeast infection right at the start of my period. I went to the gyno and now I need to take a diflucan each month for the next 6 months ad then it should kill all the yeast...
It's weird that I never had that while I was on dianette, a medium heavy pill, and I do have it on mircette now which is pretty light.
it's awful though. I can definitely sympathize thank god for the diflucan.
and thrush is already bad enough but in combination with my period and tampons and such...ugh....I just wanted to stay in bed for a week.

I've never heard or known anyone to get serious side affects such as the ones you mentioned. The only side affect i ever got from the pill was terrible mood swings; i mean one minute i was agressive, the next i was crying non stop.

actually, my cousin did get thrush from the pill. I'm not sure what one she was taking.

Blood clots, heart attacks, strokes etc are apparently rare side affects from the pill. however, you can get one of these by doing anything.... for example.. we're all suppose to exercise to keep our hearts healthy... we're not suppose to exercise too much because it could give us a heart attack...

what was your acne from? point me in the direction of your thread of skin tips please?

my skin has gotten really bad all of a sudden in september and stayed that way, I've gone on the pill and it's doing nothing.

that might be so in a lot of cases ... but i did gain weight from the pill. i was on levlen for about 2 years then i switched to diane and gained about 10 kgs! i hadn't changed anything about my lifestyle at all and obviously wasn't going through puberty at 20 ... lol
i'm back on levlen now, but i'm thinking of having a break from the pill for awhile.

The only thing my pill ever did to me was give me migraines and I saw flashing lights and stuff. This was after about 2/3 year on it though. Apparantly the oestregen was stoppping some oxygen going to my brain or something. The doc took me off it because it meant I was more likely to have a stroke on it. I am on a POP one now and its fine.

ortho tri-cyclen lo made me break out in a full body allergic rash.

well. usually they give you the dianette pill because that's the one that works for acne but it takes 2 years to see the actual results. it's not a miracle solution. nothing really is.
Accutane is a last resort medication for acne and is ery very strong with loads of side effects. you need to have blood drawn monthly so they can test your liver and whatnot.
You can and should only go on it after having tried everything. have you been to a derm? you should. they can give you creams and maybe antibiotics.

ok. so I've been thinking about it and yes, for dianette (= diane) it may be different because when I switched to a lighter pill because diane was not doing anything for my skin I lost a lot of weight.
now, I did have a lot of extra weight to lose but it went remarkably easy (I didn't do anything) so the fact that I was on a lighter pill may have had sth to do with it.

but I still believe that you don't gain weight from the "normal" lighter pills...
