| | | herbal tea? Im not sure where to put this but...
Basically I suffer from migranes oh so badly. The doctor has given me stupidly strong pain killers and some anti sickness stuff, but has told me all the usual chocolate cheese ect is a no no, then she said tea and coffee also doesnt help.
I work in an office. We drink tea all day. So I have a dilema. I have tried to cut down and she sugested things like herbal teas. I dont really know much about them other than most are an aquired taste!
Anybody care to suggest some? |

| | Yeah man, herbal teas are definitely an acquired taste and if you're looking for something to satisfy your craving for conventional tea (milk, sugar et all) they're not ideal. Unless you find you like it, of course. It's just that it's not similar to normal tea. You don't take milk or sugar with it. Personally, I love Love LOVE herbal tea, but cannot stomach the normal stuff at all. Similarly, my friends love normal tea but cannot stand the taste of green/herbal.
You should try a variety of different teas all the same. I'm guessing it's the caffeine content of tea and coffee that your doctor disapproves of, so I suggest you try chamomile tea. It has calming properties, and so might be beneficial for your headaches. Stay away from green tea, as it has a high caffeine content.
The most popular and inexpensive brands of chamomile tea are Twinings and Clipper. You can buy it at most supermarkets and health stores.

| | | I dont dont drink tea. I always have twinnings peppermint or fuit teas. They take a bit of getting used to when you are so used to drinking proper tea, but stick with it as you soon get used to the taste!

| | | i think jasmine tea is not an herbal tea, but a blend of jasmine leaves/blossoms with real tea leaves. so maybe avoid that one if your to cut out caffiene. green tea is not herbal tea as well.

| | | jasmine is a type of flavored green tea. It still has caffiene, thought maybe half of what an equal volume of coffee does. White tea has less still, about a fourth.
Good herbals:
Rooibos aka Red bush
ginger (my fave)
fruit
mint
chamomile (good for bedtime)
Yerba mate is called herbal sometimes because it's not from the tea plant. However, it has a lot of caffiene, or actually a molecule that is very similar to caffiene. |

I work in an office. We drink tea all day. So I have a dilema. I have tried to cut down and she sugested things like herbal teas. | No Fun At All..., the migranes, and no coffee. Really I can relate, and am sorry for you. I suffered intense migranes as a kid (the kind that were nauseating, disorienting, and only stabilized by massaging pressure points, or lying in a DARK room with a cool rag on your neck and forehead. I ate so much tylenol extra strength my mom was more worried about kidney damage. This was long before much was known about migranes scientifically/medically. However my doctor was very aware of homeopathic practices as well as general practices. The diet thing was the first issue looked at.
I'd think the dilema rests more with cutting down drinks that potentially give you the energy to swing through a long day at 'the office.' Quote:

Plus I know that migranes are a different "animal of a headache" but typically, now, if I do have a mild headache coffee/caffine can help subside some of the tension/pain. Long gone are migranes, something with which is just a distant memory that doesn't get revisited too often. Thankfully. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to try the Yerba Mate. Here is a good brand easily found in Whole Foods, or as the website offers, via the web. Guayaki Organic Yerba Mate, sustainable, fair trade, kosher, rainforest grown, shade grown, energy drinks Magical Mint Mate - 100% Organic - Yerba Mate, Traditional, Tea, Bags,Organic, Healthy, Energy, Mint, spearmint, peppermint, refreshing, cool,
Yeah the mint stuff is good.
I'd also look into some of Tazo's herbal teas. What I've had is: African Red Bush, Passion, and (the first Yerba Mate beverage that I had) Matι Tropic. {as Tazo's site states it is caffinated.}
Other than that the typical camomile's, spearmints, and peppermints are always popular.
Look into types of the Republic of Tea, and Celestial Seasonings. Speaking of the Republic of Tea..... their Ginger Peach Decaf is awesome. And for someone who is usually "sensitive" to caffine's effects, I can drink the stuff (GP decaf) real late at night and have NO problems getting to sleep. So maybe their decaf process is good enough to work for your needs.
Good Luck. |

| | | curiously, you will probably get a terrible headache for a day or two if you give up caffeine if you use it a lot, and be more prone to headaches in general for a while after that |

I don't know if it's decaffinated, but have you tried white tea? (it's a variant of green, confusingly)

| | | My Mom suffered horrible migraines several times a week. She quit the chocolate and cheese, but didn;t lose the headaches til she went on one certain medicaine and gave up drinking tea. She drinks Bigelow raspberry and a green tea with peach. Green tea does have some caffeine I believe, but it is the lowest. I would say go for decaffeinated tea like the yummy ginger peach by republic of tea or bigelow's constant comment which has a clove flavor. |

Im beggining to enjoy them now, they are more refreshing than regular tea, plus they save using milk thats been sat in the work fridge for far longer than it should be.
I went back to the docs on tuesday, and he has given me something to stop headaches all together, which makes me happy, however they kock me out within half an hour of taking them.
I seriously have to get me some of that apple stuff! |
