| | | Does smoking help you lose weight? I've been considering this ever since KR has been saying this.
I've smoked before, but I rarely ever smoke (usually once or twice a week, and I inhale so my tolerance must be getting stronger) and I'm not really concerned about the health-related problems it may bring, plus I'd like a raspy voice .
So do smoking really help you lose weight, also would my face get less fat, my body shape is fine |

| | | You won't lose weight that you already have. It's just a mild appetite supressant.

| | | Nicotine is an appetite suppressant, and may inhibit the release of insulin and also increases your metabolism ever so slightly. Smoking can be a substitute for people who would otherwise snack. So, it can lead to slight weight loss.
However, it makes exercising that much more difficult, as your blood cannot hold as much oxygen since your haemoglobin binds irreversibly with the carbon monoxide in the smoke, forming carboxyhaemoglobin. This can mean that up to 30% of your blood's normal oxygen content is reduced (as soon as you stop smoking, this will last for as long as the affected red blood cells do - up to a maximum of around 120 days). So, you puff and pant while performing seemingly non-strenuous activities in an effort to get more oxygen into your body.
So since you can't exercise as efficiently, you cannot therefore burn calories as efficiently.
Also, if you stop smoking you will tend to crave food as a result of the body's initial shock at nicotine withdrawal, so you're more likely to gain weight. |

| | | I find that smoking makes me feel less hungry. That's probably why it could help you lose weight. But like someone else said, I'd rather just go on a diet. |

| | | Coffee and Cigarettes can be used as a meal replacement.
Plus smoking is fun (no point in pretending otherwise).
Sadly lung cancer, inability to do anything without running out of breath and painful coughing fits get in the way of the fun.
Plus its just about the most ageing thing you can do.
In general you're better off sticking to coffee and gum/eating sensibly. Its easier to develop will power than putting up with the negative sides of smoking. |

| | | Coffee is an appetite supressant, it increases metabolic speed and helps burn fat if you exercise. Stick to black coffee. There is less hideous cancer related to it. |

| | | Starting to smoke just so you can lose a pound or two is really dumb. Getting myself addicted to cigarettes is one of the stupidest things I've ever done, so I encourage people who aren't addicted, to stay the hell away from the mother fucking cancer sticks.
If you want to lose weight, do it the healthy way. My mom is a member of Curves and she's doing awesome, she's lost about 15 or so pounds now and looks and feels great. The healthy way isn't always the easiest, but it's definitely the most rewarding.
