| | | heart problems has anyone here ever been diagnosed with heart problems?
i havent, but i think i need to go to the doctor. sometimes when i am just laying in bed trying to sleep my heart beats so fast you'd think i'd run 10 miles in 10 minutes. other times i feel like it is beating so slow i am about to die and other times it just feels really irregular.
i have never passed out or anything, but i know i do have bad circulation (i am always cold, my limbs fall asleep really easily and a lot)
is there anything that can even be done about this? should i bother myself with it?

| | Do you drink a lot of caffeine? That can make your heart race or feel weird. I have a heart murmur, I'm really sensitive to stuff like that even though I am a massive caffeine abuser |

| | | I used to drink alot of pop and had really bad chest pains. I know its not the same as what you have but I stopped drinking it and don't get them anymore. Sometimes you just have to cut certain things out. The caffeine very well could be your problem. Try not having it for awhile and see if it changes anything. |

| | Um, go to a doctor? My Friend has Cardio Myopathy He also has another condition, which I can't remember right now ... anyway, his heart beats anywhere from 150 - 490 bpm He now has a pace maker - he's 24!
So, yeah - get it checked out! |

| | | I would get it checked out. They can stick a 24 hour ECG on you and see what is going on. Cause if its stress/caffiene, that is fine, but if it is an underlying heart condition, then something really simple to treat could end up killing you. Lots of people have long QT syndrome and don't know it... |

| | | I get that all the time, its something that got mis diagnosed as m.e years ago, but recently got diagnosed as postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, aswell as sinus tachycardia.
Mitral valve prolapse can have similar symptoms and is apparently very common, but obviously doctors, ecg's and 24 hour tapes can pick it up.
Mine helped when i was put on medication to controll the rate (it would often shoot up to 140 when i was resting in bed), but alas i still get quite bad symptoms. |

it was fucking scary before it was undiagnosed though, lying awake at night listening to the curious pauses and thumps in my chest

| | When I was 13, I hit my growth spurt and grew about 10 inches in less than a year. I couldn't even stand up for longer than about 15 seconds (unless I could lean against something) or else my 5'11" body would just fall to the ground cause my heart had yet to grow and couldn't support my big body! Even the act of simply going from laying down to sitting up made my heart rate double.
I got all sorts of tests done, including two ekg's and the cardiologists couldn't find any sort of disease or whatever, but the small heart/big body theory makes sense.
I'm 27 now and believe that my heart is still a bit too small for my body (not nearly as bad as it was as a teen though). When excercising, I now just sort of have to take it easy- running is still very difficult, but I like to walk.
I also have poor circulation. I do try to limit my sugar intake cause that helps a lot (especially in the winter when I'm prone to getting cold feet).
Also, I handle hot weather horribly and am very prone to heat stroke. Humidity just destroys my poor little heart! I had my first heat stroke at 16 in Minnesota and almost died. |
