| | | Depo Provera? You should be able to get it from your gyno. Just talk to him/her about it. |

| | | i had "problem" on the shot.
if it's Depo, i can tell you about my ultra shitty experience:
okay, you of course get it every 4 month. and it does for the most part stop your period. HOWEVER, it doesn't stop it completely. and it may not stop it at all and your system can get all kindsa fuckered up. in my case, i bled heavily for the first 4 months after getting the shot. i got the second shot and it stopped, but when i started nearing the time for me to go get the shot again (weeks 9-12), i had the most horrifying 3 week period. i got the shot 2 more times before i just got sick of it. but that shit working out of my system was horrible! really graphic girl details i'll spare you, but to sum it up, i landed myself in the ER because the cramping was so bad i couldn't walk.
and among other things, significant weight gain and dizziness. |

the shot actually made me swear off all chemical birth controls personally. scared the shit out of me. |

Tomator! that sounds really scary | true, but the you still get your period once a month. as for the shot, you're stopping something that is supposed to happen naturally. as much as it sucks to have your period, taking a shot to get rid of it for months at a time seems like it HAS to be bad for your body. |

It cleans you out. If your not getting it all the bad shit in you is just sticking around. It can't be safe. They'll probably figure it out later. Possibly too late for the people already taking it. Ya know?!?! |

| | | I find the reason why these forms of birth control effect periods to be more important than actual delay. It's the fact that they release hormones into the body that makes them unattractive to me.
The patch and the pill have also listed effects on menstral cycles - making periods lighter or shorter or helping women to control when they menstrate. (I have a friend who was on the pill to regulate her periods.) I'm not on any of them so I'm not sure how exactly the hormones control menses.
Each to their own. I'm just saying that the patch, the pill, the shot or the ring - they all have their side effects. |

Tomator! that sounds really scary | oh, it was...
okay, i'll go ahead and dish the really graphic shit while i'm here: what was causing the cramps was that by not having my period like i was supposed to, all that shit built up in my uterus and then all came out at once, resulting in my passing what looked like a bloodclot the size of my hand. NOT FUN.
and i'm still not necessarily in the clear. i was on the shot from age 16-17. i'm 25 now. i haven't exactly been trying to get pregnant, but there have been enough "oops" moments, and judging from my family's VERY fertile history, i should have like 8 kids by now. i'm sure i could very well just be paranoid, but it's still frightening to someone who wants kids someday. |

i got the shot in june. i gained like 10 lbs. In september i stopped getting my period (well that was the last one i've had). around november I lost the 10 lbs i had gained without any effort (not even exercising or anything, it just dropped off). every once in a while i get mild cramps but if i take a midol or even just ibuprofen they go away. it's nothing intense.
i would not ever bother with any other birth control.
i guess its good for some and not for others??

Ya know?!?! | it is not just "sticking around" or "building up".. you stop ovulating, so there is no egg to come out. you do not get like an egg pile-up. thats just stupid.
