| | plague - killing the germs and meds so i have a sinus infection/head cold aka the plague of death. its bad. i'm taking tylenol cold (pain reliever, nasal decongestant, sore throat), dayquil and nyquil for the whooping cough, and amoxicillin. the doctor gave me the amoxicillin after it spread to my ears on thursday. i've been sick for a week and like, i'm not getting better. i thought i was but then my ears started hurting and feeling like i was under water again. but nothing is draining?
do i need a stronger antibiotic?
and now i feel like i am going to get dysentery?
and also. i'm washing all my bedding but i have a feather down duvet. can i just stick it in the dryer to kill the germs? normally i'd wash & line dry it but its raining. and the dry cleaners is closed.
halp halp. i feel like i'm going to die.

| | | my son had a winter coat w/ down and it was always needing to be washed
it smells nasty if you don't get it thoroughly dry in the dryer
which seems to take forever and a day...

| | Get an eye dropper and put a touch of hydrogen peroxide in your ears. It'll kill any infection if it's made its way in there. With what you sound like, I'd imagine it'll fizz like crazy. Let it work for a minute or two.
The next thing to do to help with sinuses (I do this often myself, sick or not) is to get a Neti Pot. If you can't find one close by, just go to the kitchenware section of your local department store and get a turkey baster instead. (I actually prefer the baster, myself) It will work just as good and provide a bit more flow with squeezing the bulb and all.
Take about 1/4 teaspoon of salt and mix it with 2 cups warm water. About body temperature. Fill the neti pot or turkey baster with the salt water. then lean over a sink and kind of tilt your head to one side. Place the spout of the neti pot or the tip of the baster into one nostril about the length of the tip of your finger and then slowly pour or squeeze (depending on which you use) the water into your nostril.
This takes a bit of practice to get a feel for it, but at first it may feel like when you get water in your nose when swimming. Just adjust the head a bit and it'll come to you. The water will start to come out the other nostril, sometimes you may feel some trying to trickle down the back of your throat.
Just spit any out if this happens. Repeat with other nostril.
It's called nasal irrigation/lavage and helps to keep the passages cleaned out.
Here's a video explaining the procedure: Video: Nasal irrigation (nasal lavage) for adults - MayoClinic.com |

| | | do you have insurance? augmentin is very expensive but its a bad ass antibiotic. my doc prescribes that for sinus infections. amoxicillin without the other ingredient just kept mine at bay until i stopped taking it and then thqt sinus infection came back immediately. augmentin (which is amox with another ingedient) killed it within three days.

| | | so my plague has cleared up for the most part. i have a bit of a runny nose and a cough at night. but my ears!! they feel so clogged still. and i can barely hear out of my right ear. & it was a little leaky this morning?
i have 3.5 days left of the augmentin. should i just wait it out until the meds are done or should i go back to the doctor?
geek?

| | oh no, are you feeling better yet? i thought this was "plaque - killing the germs and meds" and i got a bad feeling reading that. not that the plague is any better.
i have one permanently deaf ear so i kind of understand how you feel.

| | | I got a sinus infection NOW. I dont have a cold, soar throat or ears its just my sinuses feel blocked and the pressure on my face it unbelievable. I just press the sides and top of my nose and it hurts really bad and under my eye socket and above them feel sore. My glands just under my cheeks are pinking up and it makes me look unwell. I have to massage my face constantly to relieve a bit of pressure. I swear its been on and off ever since I had to work in that godawful stench of death nursing home. I have no meds and I dont know what to take over the counter because I dont really have congestion. Just been laying off the wheat and dairy for now...and eating garlic, chilli and onions. |
