| | | Out of my f**king mind with back pain I threw my back out this week (yes I know I'm old) carrying my adorable but huge nephew. My left side of my back extending to my left shoulder is not moving well, I mean, I can move it but I'm in quite a bit of pain. I am out of my fucking mind with pain right now, I was out with my poor husband earlier and he took me home...he gave me an ice pack and I started crying like a little kid.
Anyways, this happened to me a few years ago, the ER doc gave me some narcotics and I was baked out of my mind for a couple of days before the pain became manageable. Given my current state (job etc.) I cannot do this now. Anyone have some pain relief strategies??? I put some Theragesic on it (a aches rub) and took some Excedrin. It hasn't helped. Gulp. |

| | | ouch...sorry to hear. Back pain is such a bitch. I've never "thrown out" my back, but I've had my share of back pain mostly from my bad posture and flat feet. My Obus Forme helps at work and whenever I'm on the comp.
I also fill up empty liquor bottles with hot water and apply that to wherever the muscle/joint pain is. It's soothing to me. |

| | Nothing but Ice every couple of hours for the first 48 hours. This is to get the inflammation down as much as possible. You really can't do much else, except use some Ibuprofen, or if that hurts your stomach, there's this over-the-counter stuff called Ecotrin that worked for me too.
After 48 hours, switch to heat for 20 minutes, followed by ice for 20 minutes, every few hours. Take the anti-inflammatory meds also. If you can move around at all, do so with care. If you can stretch a little bit, that's always good, especially your legs. Try to make them bear all of your weight these days if you can.
I don't mean to sound pathetic, but using a cane around the house when your back is really bad does help! (It takes the weight off your back) I SWEAR I'm not calling you old. It helps, that's all.
I'm sorry about your back, it's the worst! It's been my downfall for the past 15 years or so, and the pain is fucking unbearable sometimes. I hope you feel better very soon. |

I usually put a heating pad on, except during the summer. Pain killers normally don't help me. Hot/warm showers sometimes makes it feel better for a little while.
Get your hubby to give you a massage next time. |

| | | Yeah my back is fucked all the time, I just either put heat packs on it, get it massaged or take magnesium, depending on what kind of pain.

Are you less death yet? | The pain has gone from a roar to a dull ache in my upper and lower back. At least it's manageable. I think it's a combo of having scoliosis and being, well, a bit old (because when I was younger my back never bothered me). Call me House M.D., because I see a bit of Vicodin in my future: |

We could add a "Portraits of Pain" photo series. I thought about taking a pic of myself Saturday, all tear stained and fucked up, to add to my MySpace page, it was too sad and somehow hilarious to miss. |
