| | Head Pains I have these weird head pains every once in a while. The top right part of my head feels as if someone is hitting me with a hammer. There are other times when I would suddenly look up at something and the back of my head feels as if a vessel had broken, like i've been hit in the back of the head and, i don't know how to describe it, there's this painful warm sensation. Anybody had that type of experience? It's been happening for a few years and i'm 19. |

| | | I went through a phase when I had the latter sensation, like a vessel had broken and it was leaking blood under the skin- it feels like warm liquid spreading out. Its stopped happening now though, thank god. |

Its stopped happening now though, thank god. | Did you ever find out what was causing it? I haven't had headaches this bad in a while, but for the last three days through all my waking hours I've had one constantly. The intensity of the pain comes and goes, and the location changes; sometimes it'll feel like it's pulsing right behind my nose, or above my eyes, at different speeds. At the moment it's a constant ache, but I don't know what's causing it.
I am worried about work, but I'm always worried about that, so nothing has really changed in that respect. I don't normally get severe headaches when my period is due, which it should be in the next week/ten days or so. My mum suggested it could be because I need glasses? I've booked an appointment at the optician's for Monday to see, but I'm dreading them saying I need glasses
Sorry OP for not really helping and for listing all my symptoms too. Maybe you could go for an eye test, if you don't wear glasses? Have you seen your doctor? My mum said he'd just send me for an eye test, so I'm doing that first before I do make an appointment (not sure why I'm trusting my mum on this; she's a medical secretary with a doctor complex.) |

the doctor told me it's a type of migraine/tension headache. i haven't had the intense stabbing pain lately, yet i still get the pain in the back of my head.

I didn't tell him that I had an unbelievable blinding headache because I didn't want to worry him..
Can you take something for migraine? I was told (ok, by my mum - see earlier description) that you have them all your life, you don't develop them? Something like that, & that the headaches I used to get (ah - pattern?) weren't severe enough to be migraines. But maybe it could be that?

Sorry matrixfrk, hijacking your thread again... | like kesh said, go to the doctors to rule out other conditions.
there are medicines to take for the headaches when you're diagnosed.
i try to avoid medicine & i have headaches almost daily. i rarely treat them and i suffer for it.
there are also triggers (smoking, alcohol, foods, stress, bright light) avoiding them can help. i don't avoid much of that either.

Sorry matrixfrk, hijacking your thread again... | I don't take any medicine for migraines. I've never been diagnosed for migraines actually. Anyway, this could probably be nothing. It's probably just stress...or a brain tumour. I'll just wait and see. |

| | | My weird hot liquid sensation I got after taking too many pills (of the illegal kind) and getting viral meningitis. They lasted about 6-8 months after that, then went away.
I used to get very strange headaches when I was on a high dose form of the pill. When I took my pill free break, if I was lying or sitting down and stood up, I'd get this very localised throbbing headache that hurt like fuck for about ten seconds. I'm glad I don't have that anymore, though I've just started a new pill and its making my mood swings awful. |

i get those too
they are most common in men over 50 who are heavy drinkers!
totally the opposite of me
i also get regular migraines which are easier to treat w. meds as needed
i take maxalt
its reallly good stuff
in addition to the other things mention which cause headaches, i find that smells also trigger mine- like when some one is wearing too much perfume or there is a strong airfreshener in the room etc

hardest thing to treat because so many things can trigger.
they prescribe astelin for that. it's a nose spray.
