| | | It may in theory go away on its own, but the bacteria still stays in your body. So each time you get it and ignore it, the bug gets stronger and more resistant to your immune system as well as antibiotics. So it really is in your best interest to get it treated every time and take the antibiotics all the way through.

The only way to know you actually have strep, and not just a really bad sore throat or flu, is by getting a test at the doctor.
I've always thought it doesn't go away on its own, and that's why people make such a big deal about getting antibiotics for it. |

So it's a lose lose situation with strep.
I've had it every year since I was 16, but it is less severe every year because I take vitamins every day. And when I have it I take this herbal gunk that tastes not unlike burning rubber. |

| | | it's not like taking antibiotics every time is good for you..not at all. You could become immune for those too. So basically, if you can still sorta eat and drink, just eat lotsa ice, cold drinks etc, that keeps the swelling down too. And I just take a multivitamin daily. your body can get rid of this on its own. |

| | | i had a sinus infection i let go for a good year figuring it would eventually go away with time and if i ingested enough of what i thought was the right stuff.
WRONG.
my doctor asked me if i enjoyed being sick and in pain.
i went from a high dose of augmentin which wasn't clearing up the infect and was then put on cipro.
i'm dealing with this right now.

| | | an infection generally won't clear up on it's own and by letting it 'run it's course' you could risk spreading the infection or causing yourself more harm. I left a sinus infection and ended up with a secondary throat infection and a serious course of antibiotics. An ear infection as a child left a friend of mine virtually deaf in one ear. Don't fuck around with infections.
if it IS strep you should see a doctor.

thanks guys. <3 | I'm sorry, but it's complete bullshit that it's going to cost you that much for something so essential.
US healthcare is bullshit. Not that UK is much better but that's just crap.

its really rediculous that you have to have health insurance for it not to cost an arm and a leg to get it taken care of when youre sick.
i went and he said i had a really bad case of strep throat and put me on a three time a day medicne.
want to know whats even more rediculous?
i asked for the generic brand which ended up only being 15 bucks. on the receipt it said i saved 148 dollars by using the generic. jesus christ. |

US healthcare is bullshit. Not that UK is much better but that's just crap. | those who were smart enough to get state aid do not pay that much for anything and in my experience dont get claims turned down so long as they do it right. ex: get a damned referral before seeing a specialist or having any tests done.

I miss my old canadian health plan that my work offered that covered everything from massage therapy to accupuncture. however it's pretty awesome that in England I get free birth control. I pay through work for private health care insurance just in case. also means I can get specialist referrals/outpatient care etc. too bad I'm healthy and never use my coverage.
always always always buy generic when it comes to meds. read the labels and the amounts of whatever. my allergy stuff is like .99/week generic and like a trillion£/week for name brand. ass.

my gramma and i have this theory that the american healthcare system has nothing to do with healthcare and everything to do with making money. its bullshit. they make a lot of money off of people being sick, they really couldnt care less about anyone getting better as long as they can get inside their wallets. |
