great choice.
I've never been much of a smoker but my friend who recently quit said she found this site to be quite helpful so maybe you will too. |

| | | Suggestions? Never use the words 'after this pack'. I always say that but then i go out and buy a new one, and then it's back to 'i'll quit. After this pack'. |

| | | I don't think the "after this pack" thing works.
I've been smoke free since Nov 1st. I wanted to quit for ages, but eventually quit quitting because I always gave in to temptation.
Then I decided sometime in sep or oct that i'd quit, set a date, nov 1st, and decided to quit smoking on that specific date.
I think it helped a lot. I had the mindset together and I was prepared, and when you say you want to quit people are usually very supportive. I made it through week one with nicotine gum. Then left them alltogether after a week.
I've smoked on a two festive (drunken) occasions, like NYE. What I do is toss out the rest of the fags before i go home. Not having the rest of the pack there in the morning makes you not smoke them.
If they're there you'll smoke them, so keep them away!
It's been tough at times, but when I feel stressed out i just remeber how smelly and unsexy i was, and how much longer i last on the threamill now.
So i think if you prepare yourself you're more likey to succeed.
Good luck! |

| | My Mum's friend quit by keeping a pack and lighter in her bag, saying to herself "if I want one, I'll have one", and trying not to. I think not pressuring yourself probably works best, and wanting to do it for yourself. I haven't got to the point where I want to quit yet though, but I go through "cutting down" phases. The "after this pack" thing really won't work I expect, because you're making it too ceremonial. The book by Allen Carr is really good for quitting though, apparently. Good Luck |

| | | I think smoking is good for you: it reduces stress; keeps your appetite down;goes great with alcohol;feels great after sex and almost guarantees you wont' live to be a decrepit, geriatric burden to your family. Why quit? |

| | | Good luck! It's best to throw the pack you have now away and just say that's it. It's a drastic thing but it helps. Just chew on gum when you feel like a smoke or have a drink of water. Some say smoking aids help but I gave up cold turkey. |

Why quit? | a couple of hours ago i was stressed about all the work i'm behind on. At break i had a cigarette. Suddenly i was raring to go to my next lesson and finish all my work. There is no food in my house. I'm really hungry. I smoked a cigarette and didn't feel hungry at all. I can't drink a can of beer without a cigarette because it feels so good. I hate to admit it because it's so smelly but it goes GREAT after sex.
And I know i need to quit. I know i do. And i like the thought of being a healthy person with the accasional cigarette every now and then when i'm drunk. I know i need too but i don't WANT too. and thats my problem.
Also, my boyfriends smokes so much it's hard to stop when he doesn't want too.........
but i need too. i'm going out for a cigarette now because i have a five minute break. But i've suddenly got inspired to cut down. |

| | You have to want to quit I quit last week when i was sick and it seems to have worked. I have done this once before and it lasted about 4 months, i started back again even worse than before. Its all a state of mind, if you break down drink some water. I dont really believe in gum, patches or medication, it's all made by the tobacco companies. So how much can you really believe that they want to help you? You will go through withdrawals, just have a strong will and ignore them as much as possible. Drink LOTS of water that seems to help me. Oh, dont drink any alcohol, i always tend to break down. Thats all ive been doing, just readind alot and drinking water, you dont want to gain weight ya know. Good luck i think that you are doing the right thing if you want to live longer. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
