| | | Double the health issues So as not to spam the joint up, I'm putting a couple of possible health issues into one thread.
Okay, firstly: teeth grinding. My boyfriend is telling me lately that I grind my teeth when I sleep. Obviously I'm not conscious of it and I haven't noticed any teeth damage at this point, but he says it sounds quite severe. Any ideas what can be done about that? I fear I might end up wearing down my teeth, if that's even possible. I guess this is something I'll need to raise with my dentist next time I'm there, but any tips are welcome.
Secondly: ear wax to the max. I tend to sleep on my left side and often wake up with my left ear feeling 'glued' shut, as I've been lying on it, and I can't hear very well until it sort of eases itself open. I always clean all visible, superficial signs of wax but obviously this shit is internal. Anything effective I can get from the pharmacy/over the counter that'll help to clear this up? I hate ear drops big time but it's just getting stupid now.

- Alors, pourquoi l'as-tu pris?
- Parce que je ne pensais pas qu'il pleuvrait. |

| | | some people swear by diluted hydrogen peroxide for ear cleaning, but you have to know absolutely that you do not have a perforated ear drum
with teeth grinding you can wear a fitted guard similar to what football players wear in order to save your teeth. also, has your bf ever noticed that you stop breathing in your sleep? or that you snort awake multiple times in the night?

| | | They have ear wax removers in the supermarket/pharmacy. It's sort of hard to find them, but I know they have something call "Ear Wax Relief." I forget who makes it, but it should help.

| | | i grind my teeth at night.
they'll get all sensitive and start hurting like a bitch eventually. & they'll start wearing down bad too.
i don't know how many years it takes to wear them down. i dont know how long i've been doing it, but my teeth are ground pretty flat.
you can buy rubber nightguards at the store for about 20 bucks. you should probably do that, um now. until you get to the dentist.

| | | I've been grinding my teeth for about 30 years and amazingly, no damage done yet! I don't know if I'm the exception to the rule or the actual rule though, and I do see the dentist twice a year, he's aware of the grinding thing, and there is no significant damage....yet.
The ear thing.....I saw a doctor on tv who said that earwax is actually your ear sweating. I don't know about the health part of that, but I thought the origin of ear wax itself was pretty interesting. |

| | | I grind my teeth as well, and have done it for years. Your dentist can give you a mouthguard if it's bad enough, so far I don't have any major damage yet. Although sometimes my jaw hurts when I wake up from doing it. |

| | | I grind my teeth terribly. I've been doing it for years, but never had $$ to fix it. You can actually see places in my teeth where I've worn them down, my jaw hurts and pops constantly and I was finally told by my dentist if I didn't do something I would need to have a jaw surgery within the next two years. (I believe him, My mouth is pretty rough) I actually find myself grinding my teeth while I'm awake sometimes though too.
So, I finally got a mouth guard, and it's helping tremendously. My headaches have stopped, the popping has mostly gone away. (I assume after a longer period it'll stop totally). I highly recommend you get one if it's at all possible, even if you don't think it's a big deal yet, I think it could keep it from becoming one. |

| | | I have both those problems too!
My dentist noticed my teeth are actually getting quite blunt, but hasn't suggested anything yet.
As for the ears, I go to a specialist once a year to get them cleaned and a few months ago he told me to get a sinus scan. Turns out I have a massive infection that needs to be cured (you could actually see lots of mucus blocking up my sinuses from the scans) but, as I was moving abroad, I never did anything about it. Apparently the over-production of ear wax is a consequence of the infection. I've been pretty deaf for quite a while again so I might have to treat it this time. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
