| | | side effects from the implant? I am suppose to be getting the implant soon, but i'm worried about its side effects?
my doctor said to me that it only makes you (almostly completely) infertile for three years. I am wondering though, if something will go wrong and i will be infertile for the rest of my life? thats something i can ask her when i go for it anyway....
but i'm not entirely convinced that it doesn't give you the side effect of depression? I was on the pill and ended up getting really bad side effects where i was just miserable 24/7 and taking it out on the people i love most.
Before i went on the pill though, my doctor assured me that this wouldn't happen.
she says it's unlikely to happen with the implant, but because of past experiance i can't easily believe this.
is there anyone who has the implant and could tell me abit about it? Does it make you moody? |

| | | I can tell you from personal experience that I can not take any birth control but especially progesterone based birth controls make me feel like I have the worst case of the flu in the history of the world. Supposedly this is linked to my diagnosis of major depression.

| | | Well I really can't see how on earth an implant could make you infertile because its just slowly releasing progesterone for three years. And your body makes that naturally anyway. Its just the same as taking the progesterone only pill for three years.
As far as mental health problems are concerned, it may make them worse, but the advantage of the implant over the injection is you can have them take it out if you want. |

| | | I know decisions like these are up to the individual who has to make them for themselves but, I have never understood why anyone would deliberately tamper with their bodies natural functions and question the possibility of side-effects. Personally, I would never risk screwing with my body in such a way when a harmless condom does the job and wont create health problems. |

| | I have it. I resently got and am looking forward to not bleeding much (and not getting much pms), wich is what usually happens. Thats mainly why I got it.
It can cause your feelings to change slightly, but it's not that common. I think I know someone who became a bit numb from it and took it out.
You will get a patient information leaflet with your implant, read that. I found it a lot less scary to read than the pill ones.
The only trouble with the implant that is a bit common I think is taking it out.
ps, your doctor was a total moron for assuring you that!
good luck! |

Infact the only one of my friends (so far) who decided not to take the pill because she didn't want to screw up her body ended up having to have an abortion (even though she never had a condom split on her). An abortion, or pregnancy, carries much higher chances of serious and fatal complications (as well as mental anguish). If you use condoms and they do split, you need to use emergency contraception. Emergency contraception has MASSIVE doses of hormones in that will screw you up mentally and physically far more then the pill.
The aforementioned reasons are why I will stick with the Pill/hormonal contraception forever! |

| | | I had the implant implanon fitted a couple of month ago, and since then I've had non-stop on/off bleeding, some days heavy, some days hardly anything, it does seem to be getting better recently but it is a pain. I would say it has possibly altered my moods slightly, but can't be sure that it is the reason, as I've had a baby just over 4 months ago and it could be some post natal depression. It doesn't make you infertile, as soon as the implant is removed your fertility returns almost immediately, they say anything from 2 hours after removal is possible.
I'm leaving mine in for another month, and if I'm still having problems with the bleeding at my 3 month check I may ask about having it removed, but I've also read on the internet that irregular bleeding is extremely common in the first 3-6 months, and then it settles down.
It doesn't hurt to have it fitted, and the scar is barely noticiable, however you can notice the rod under the skin at times, and I tend to 'play' with mine. |

| | | My friend got Implanon, and her doctor said you either have big problems with irregular bleeding or you get none at all. She unfortunately got the former. I've read stories about problems conceiving after its removal but I don't suppose babies are on the horizon for you anyway. |

is there anyone who has the implant and could tell me abit about it? Does it make you moody? | My flatmate had pretty bad depression when she was on the pill, so they changed it and she was still depressed. I'm not sure if it was the pill or just the way she is, though. However she got the implant and became very depressed again. I can only tell you what she told me.
Also, she's really skinny (I'm not sure that this is scientifically related, but it seems it to me) and they put the implant in wrong or something. She was told it would be uncomfortable for a day or so, but two weeks later, she was still in pain. I think it's because she's so freakishly thin though, that it was hard for them to put in properly.
