muscle spasms/knots

are there any specific vitamins or supplements i could/should take for that?

broke my back last may and since then ive had a massive knot or spasm behind my left shoulder blade. it gets so bad i cant sit, lie down or stand straight without feeling like im ripping all the muscle apart or like theres a softball pushing my shoulder out. cant afford massage therapy because my insurance wont cover it. did physical therapy and it helped massively while i went but they cut me off saying there wasnt anything more they could do.

the bones have healed perfectly and teh only pain i have left is this damned spasm. help please. the doc is no help with that because he delas with teh bones, not the muscles (his words.)

calcium or magnesium, i forget which. both have a part in muscle contraction iirc. the ratio of intake between the two might be important

ive got a muscle spasm in my neck currently so i know how horrible this can be. im unable to work even. my nerves were affected and still are off and on. its only been a week and i find this to be an awful experience.

my internal med doc put me on valium with rest and im due back at work tomorrow. the valium helps stave off the pain but i cant work on valium and without valium ive been a mess. yesterday i went to see a chiropractor and he appled TENS, then ultrasound and adjusted my C5 as well as worked on my lower back which always causes problems for me. he told me to get an ortho support pillow which helped as well. my IM doc recommended nothing.

maybe you could try chiropractic medicine? or acupuncture if you are in a large city, there might be an accupuncurist who is worth his salt. my FIL is seeing an accupuncturist, but i cant do that as its so pricy. chiropractors will work out a deal with you, but they require monies too. i dont know what your financial situation is....

did you have the car insurance pay for your accident medical coverage or did you have medical coverage? have you gone to see a chiropractor?

well, car insurance covered 5,000. that day i was actually coming back from applying for state med insurance (lolz) so thats what i have now. they def wont cover a chiropractor. i LOVE chiros. love love them. went to one from the time i was 5 to about 10 for skulliosis, which i understand to be a common but not very severe problem for 80s babies. i miss having my back and neck adjusted, always feels so good afterwards.

i need to find one around here. here being a very very small town. population less than or just over 300. currently i live with dad and have no bills because i work for him for free, so money is a small problem. he pays me what he can when he can, but it isnt really much. my back doc put me on flexeril for the spasm. it works ok sometimes, but other times im just too tight. my neck and shoulders are ALWAYS tight no matter what, so im sure that doesnt help much.

what made your neck spasm?

what made your neck spasm?
flexeril is an excellent drug. it makes me VERY sleepy so i didnt want that one. valium just makes me woozy and im taking a small amount, just enough to somehwat cover the pain. im freaked out about drugs now and stay away from anything that could be addictive.

i have NO IDEA what caused the muscle spasm. i woke up in miserable pain a week ago and its not gone away.

cold draft maybe? that would always do it for me. or stress. stress makes you tense up. do you meditate or have at least an hour to yourself during the day or night? even just to read or have coffee with a friend and decompress.

flexeril puts me right on my ass. i take the 10mg. i try not to take it during the day but if i have to then i have to. i wont drive a long way on it ever tho.

yeah i would assume its stress related. im a stress monkey to begin with and the process of pharmacy application cycle and getting reed through school adn helping him navigate volunteer work/certification for pharm tech what to do and why is very stressful for me as well as being the sole provider. now i cant be any sort of provider. i cant fucking work! i have time saved up but thats gonna go quick.

the chiropractor told me my spine has too much stress bc of my extra weight and large breasts and suggested water aerobics. i signed up yesterday for that as well as a yoga class, so ill be doing noimpact exercising five days a week starting next week. i NEED that i think it will help alleviate stress as well as build endurance. im having a surgery in june., so i need good health for that as well.

are there special support bras or braces or something to help with the weight of yoru breasts being on your back? something to distribute that a little more evenly?

can he work part time somewhere just for a little extra money in teh house for times like this? or does he not have time between everything? sorry if im being invasive.

stretching. you need to stretch the muscles/tendons that lead to/surround the area.

pay attention to what you do prior to the spasms. could be the way you sit, walk or sleep.

how do i stretch that? i stretch by sort of stretching that hwole side but it doesnt really get the spot. i also stand in a corner (lolz) and stretch out my chest that way, its what they had me do in therapy. but that doesnt really make it better.

im geting the Roux-en-Y. it's drastic but i qualify with mitigating factors such as blood pressure, knee pain, reflux with aspiration, and lower back pain. hopefully june. i have to be monitored for three months. and thus far, its been one month. two more months and they can submit paperwork for insurance approval.

working part time is possible, but its more important that he situate with volunteer work first. this is what will look good on the apps, even the one he submitted this year. getting a job will have to worka round OChem, Physiology, taking care of seth on the wekeends, cooking, and volunteer work.

stretching is one thing to do, but while the spams are occurring (and mine supposedly can last weeks or months) TENS and US and muscle relaxants work best. my chiro even said not to take muscle relaxants bc i might further injure myself.

i go to a trainer and we just talked about spasms today.
go to your p.c. doctor and get a referral to whatever doctor can get you into physical therapy.
they can help you pinpoint, and strengthen, the muscles etc.

well, the volunteer work only has to be like one day a week, right? he could also work for a charity or something non profit. wouldnt make very much but its at least something and would still look good i think.

is there any sortof state sponsored day care or something at your work like a daycare? :/

and the spasms really are almost never not occurring really. its just more dealable at times but always there. and spasm is the word the therapist used. i think its more like a massive muscle knot. not completely sure of teh difference between the two other than one is a muscle constantly turned on and the other is a knot in the fibers of the muscle.
