| | | are you really a bulimic if you only vomit on occasion? for as long as i can remember, on occassion when i eat too much food or drink too much alcohol, i get uncomfortable and generally make myself vomit. this isn't an everyday or even every week occurence, but maybe 1-2 times/month and this has been going on 10+ years. alcohol excess is a more rare occurence, maybe once per year.
basically i'm wondering if this would really be considered bulimia since i'm not bingeing to purge and it's not done out of desire to alter my weight. i do find it a bit soothing to "release" it all out of my body as overeating (especially unhealthy foods) makes me feel really crap. |

| | I think there are different ways of being a bulimic to be honest. I am one but I've never made myself thrown up. I starve myself when I feel guilty after a pig-out. Like, 30mins of eating like a pig leads to one week of total starving.
Now, I'm not sure I've got enough knowledge to really answer. I'd say maybe you've got a "slight bulimia"?! I'm not being very useful here, sorry. |

| | | i've done this. when i just feel like shit because i ate or drank too much, so i make myself throw up and i feel better. i do it probably...2 or 3 times a year. and i don't think it's bulimia, because you're not throwing up because you're scared of getting fat, you're throwing up because youre body would physically feel better if you threw up. |

| | it sounds like a form of cleansing. Bulimia is linked to weight loss and body image - but vomiting (unless you're ill) is not really encouraged. Plus when you're sick, it sends lots of lovely adrenaline to your brain... and that can be a hard habit to break!
Try and control your portion size so you don't eat enough to make yourself vomit. |

| | | I don't think it would make you bulimic. Depends on the reason why you're throwing up though, but if it's to make you (physically) feel better, I wouldn't see how that's bulimic. Being stuffed doesn't feel good. But when you do it out of fear of getting fat & have a distorded body image, I guess that would indicate an eating disorder. |

It depends on why you're eating/drinking that much regually though.
I have on a few occasions drunk so much I've realised I need to make myself throw up. I've been like lieing there on my bed/couch and everythings spinning so I've just thought "right, I might not throw up naturally now. But it feels like I'm going to and if I force it a bit I'll get it over with". I reckon thats healthier than keeping it in and fucking your liver up even further with the alcohol you've not digested. (These not alot of medical evidence for that I'd imagine - their advice would probably be "Don't drink that much in the first place" but sometimes you get carried away....) |

| | No,cause it doesnt sound compulsive, but its better to not do stuff that would make you have to do it, look after yourself gal, puke is very acidic on your teeth. Just think before you chug a deep fried mars bar or something blatantly obvious that will make you throw chunks later |

| | | it doesn't sound like you are. i thought most/a lot of people did this? i do it very occasionally, just because the feeling of being over-stuffed can be too much to bear sometimes |

| | | no i dont think this is bullimic, unless you are purposefully eating so much just to binge and be sick,
but if you are only being sick because you feel ill and uncomfortable after unintentionally eating/drinking too much then it's probably not bullimia |

| | | If I remember correctly, the DSM IV diagnostic criteria is vomiting at least twice a week for at least three months. I might have those numbers slightly wrong.

i dont class myself as bulimic | i think you are aware that its bad and quite obviously "bulimic" to have daily puking sessions. otherwise you wouldnt have posted it in this thread about bulimia, surely..?
