| | | I have recently had a bad cold and i'm always coughing it all up.
But i was just wondering, as i am a smoker (i know. i wish i wasn't most the time.) - when 'they' say smokers cough up stuff, how much do they really mean?
because i would like to know whether it's the typical smokers cough or just the aftermath of a bad cold. |

| | | I have had a cough for 8 MONTHS now. Its really very tedious. I swallow because then your stomach acid nukes it, plus it generally comes up into the back of my throat, not the front of my mouth, so tissue transferral would be hard. |

| | swallowing is better, since your stomache will kill all germs. And for the smokers, be carefull, if you've been coughing for a long time, you could have/get chronic bronchitis, which isnt fun |

My cold is going now, but I've had such a rubbish one for the last few weeks. I wanted to seduce a boy I like but it has been a catalogue of misfortunes stopping me from doing so: no.1: cold, no.2: period, bringing with it more general undertheweatherness, no.3: finding out a few days ago he has a girlfriend. AAAAGH
So, in response to your question, I don't know...hide in your room, drink hot chocolate and watch peep show until it goes away. The worst thing is sitting in lectures and being one of those annoying people who has to sniff all the time, or not being able to talk in seminars because you have a horrible glob of something in your throat. Hope you feel better soon! |

Not to be too anal, but instead of saying the often annoying 'I have had <a cough>'
try remaining in the progressive context of the sentence by saying;
'I have coughed for 8 months'
or
'I am coughing close to a year'
Because, seriously, 'have' and 'had' should never be seen together.
