| | | well they're going to stick a camera up my bum, so i'm not excited about that.
but i hear sometimes they sedate people?
i'd love to be sedated for this whole thing.. it'd make it much more bareable.

| | | Apparently they pretty much always sedate people for colonscopies. Its supposed to be not very comfortable... I know someone who'd had loads because she has Crohn's Disease. Rating of them was not high, but if you need one, you need one. I had an endoscopy (down to the stomach). My doctor told me it would be a tiny tube down my nose to my stomach. She lied. It was a whopping great hosepipe into my stomach and they couldn't sedate me because my blood pressure was too low, so instead they just called in an extra nurse to pin me down!
I have a friend who had a penis-oscopy. Apparently thats so unpleasant you get GENERAL anaesthetic.... |

| | My mother has had two of them recently. The first one they found a polyp and they snipped it out of her. They take pictures of your colon and they give you the highlights. The ones they gave my mother were before and after pics of her polyp.
Her second one was done because she started having bloody diarrhea while she was in the hospital being treated for a severe bladder infection. They found an irritated spot in her colon. They decided all she needed was more antibiotics. |

| | | well, things did not go well.
turns out i'm not getting my colonoscopy today, but NEXT wed.
today i got to enjoy two different doctors putting their fingers up my asshole, along with what can only be decribed as a phallic shaped piece of white plastic, that was hollow. through this white plastic pvc thing, they put a bunch of different swabs, and swabbed the inside of my ass. it was NOT PLEASNT.
then i had to get bloodwork done. it took 4 pokes before she found a vein.

opinions? | I doubt it is so bad. Here you are asleep for it anyway. I had one down my throat and don't remember a thing. The guy beside me was getting his up the shitter too and was freaking out. I guess the worst thing about it is the not being allowed to eat beforehand.
I had the fingers up the arse test once when I vomited blood. Was so disturbing but I told her that I liked it and then she was disturbed.
I want them to give me whatever they knocked me out with again.. I felt high all day. |

| | | ok. so the reason i finally caved and called to get the butt exam, is because i've had pooping problems for YEARS, but now it's escalated to the point where my pooping is more regular, but for the past month or so blood comes out with it. which is really, never a good sign.
so yesterday, there was tried blood in my butt, and in my underwear.. which means it came out during a non-pooping time (when i was asleep, i presume). i've been having some abdominal discomfort over the month... i explained all this to my dr.
now today, more blood, and fresher blood this time. i'm getting sortof concerned..... kr nurses, please tell me whats up?
edit: and i learned it's not hemohorriods (sp) not internal or external or anal tears of any sort, yesterday from the rectal exam.

| | | Yeah, they pretty much always administer a sedative unless you request for them not to (which people actually do...my dad did last time, but he administers colonoscopies anyway)
You have to follow a preparation procedure for like 48 hours ahead of time and stay near a bathroom because some of the stuff they have you take has a laxative effect...and you can't eat for a certain period before...
I don't think the procedure would be painful because you'd be knocked out...and generally you don't come to until after the tube has been removed. It's definitely a procedure you'd want to have for your problems, and everyone -- GI problems or not -- ought to have it done by their 50s anyway. |

| | | ok, so now i'm getting a sigmoidosocopy on the 21st, so they can take some tissue samples, and look for/biopsy any growths (tumors, pallops, etc).
this is stressing me ouuuut.
p.s the butt bleed is still happening. it's now being accompanied with stomach cramping/abdominal discomfort (which may or may not be related)
