my skin is very clear so when i break out with three or four random zits when my cycle is fucking me over the only thing that puts a stop to it is when I use proactiv or even a generic copy like acnefree or other similar cheaper products/store verison kits

Wow I'm surprised no one answered her question.

Birth control usually works well for period related break outs or even break outs that get worse during/before your period. Just make sure they're the kind that help with that. Google will tell you.

Proactiv has a tendancy to cause cystic acne.

Hmm... The pill doesn't really do those things that often.

In that case, you pretty much have to deal with the break outs. The only thing that really works is meds.

A lot of people find that benzoyl peroxide helps though.

Proactiv's cleanser is a harsh scrub, which irritates the skin and can make acne worse. I've heard more bad than good about the stuff and have sworn it off myself.

The mask, however, is good.

I'm just telling you what I've heard though, it definitely works for some people.

Well doxycycline has to be taken ALL the time, not just during your period. It takes 6 weeks of being taken daily to have any effect. If you only take it once a month, during your period, you'll just breed resistant bacteria. Not to mention that as a girl, in the UK, the guidelines say you should not be prescribed doxycycline as an anti-acne medication unless you are also on the contraceptive pill is it is tetragenic (ie mutates foetuses).
