| | | Mircette/Mercilon birth control pill I got this prescribed today by my gyno. I've been on Dianette for 3 years for my acne but since it wasn't helping me (I'm on antibiotics for acne for the fifth time already, so the pill definitely didn't help) I decided to switch because Dianette is quite a heavy pill.
So I was wondering whether anyone has taken this pill. Does it do anything for acne?
I'm kinda hoping my acne will get better. I'm thinking maybe the Dianette had too many hormones and stuff and it could have been making things worse for my skin. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. I'm also hoping my mood swings will get better, but I don't know whether those are cause by the Dianette or just my personality (disorders?).
Oh. And also. I was supposed to have a pill stop on friday, but since I was going to the gyno today and had to have an exam I kept on taking my Dianette. Should I have my stop now and then start Mircette next week? Or can I just not have my period and start taking Mircette right away?
Thanks |

| | | I had to change to mercilon pills because high dose pills give me migranes. I dont knw a bout the acne, but as for when u should take your break, i suppose its ok continuing with the regular pills as long as they aren't harming you. But i think you should check with your doctor maybe. |

| | | I think its quite a good pill, my doctor suggested it for me (I picked marvelon out of the options she gave me though because I'd heard of it). As for the pill break, you could ask your gyno, but stopping now for seven days (then starting the new pill) should be fine. You can swap from one to another but since the oestrogen content of mircette is lower, if you run one into the other, you'll prob get loads of break through bleeding, so I would recommend a weeks break. |

| | I'm on Mercilon these days after switching from a higher dose combined pill because my skin had improved.
It's a low dose pill so wouldn't be expected to do much for your skin?
High dose pills are high in oestrogen/progesterone which you would expect to improve skin rather than worsen it, testosterone is the hormone they usually blame for acne.
Hope the antibiotics work though. |

| | | Fuck i wish i could remember the name of the pill i used to be on.
I had really bad acne for years when i was younger & antibiotics never did anything for it, but i went on the pill & it fixed it within a few months.
Ok i've been on:
Dianne
Juliet
& Brenda
( & some other one i'll ask the doc next time im there & find out the name for you)
I'm on Brenda now, apparently it still works for acne but its not as strong as the other one i used to be on (& i'm noticing break outs for the first time in years.)
So maybe it was the first or second one?
I hope you find something that works, because i know how much of a nightmare acne is.
As Insomnia said - take a weeks break before pills. Not only can it be a fuck around for your body but it can make you feel rotten.
Good luck

| | | slightly off topic for a second, does anybody know if it is a good idea to change pills every few years or so, just for something different? my mum was on the same pill for about 10 years and afterwards found it really difficult to conceive, i'm just concerned that being on the same pill for any long period of time might have similar complications? i realise that the two events might be unrelated but i wondered if it is worth talking to my doctor about. |

I wouldn't think it would matter if you changed pills or not, because all pills have a similar affect to your body in the way of periods & stuff?
I'm not a doctor though so I'm not sure.
But I heard taking any pill (different kinds or the same kind) isn't good for you over a long period of time? I've been on mine for 6 years now, so if it does do anything the damage would already be done I guess. |

| | | The only pill you need to swap off after a couple of years is dianette- all the rest are fine to be on for long periods of time. If you have been on the pill for more then two years, they tell you you should come off the pill a year before you want to concieve, because thats how long it takes your cycle to go back to normal. My mother was on the same pill for 15 years, came off it and had me and my sister fine, and there is nothing in the literature to suggest it is a problem, so you shouldn't change unless you want to. |
